Calaveras

(Hiramatsu Akiko)

CalaverasThe second-oldest of the four Phantom Sisters of the Black Moon Clan, employed along with her sisters by Rubeus to find the 'Rabbit' and contaminate twentieth century Tokyo with Dark Power. (063, 068) Calaveras favoured the use of an extendable whip, the Dark Beaut, in battle. She maintained an obvious rivalry with her older sister Petz, and they often clashed over the subject of men. In contrast to Petz's bitter misandry, Calaveras loved men but held a highly patronising attitude towards them. Her rivalry often saw her accompanying her older sister on missions. (065)

After Koan defected to the Sailor Team's side, Calaveras disowned her, keen to prove her loyalty to Rubeus. Later, after Berthier succeeded in trapping the Sailor Team, Calaveras and Petz appeared at the last moment to share in the glory. However, when Berthier's plan went awry they quickly left, leaving their sister to fend for herself. This action prompted Berthier to join Koan and abandon the Black Moon Clan. (071) Soon after, Rubeus sent Petz and Calaveras on a mission to kill the Sailor Team, giving Petz a staff that greatly increased her power. The duo kidnapped Koan and Berthier, using them as bait to lure the Sailor Team into a battle. The Sailor Team turned up to battle them, and struggled against Petz's overwhelming power. However, the staff was beginning to exert an influence over Petz's personality, forcing her to attack Calaveras as well as her enemies. Sailor Venus separated Petz from the staff, prompting Rubeus to appear and activate the weapon's true power, creating a black hole. Rubeus then left, announcing that he never expected Petz and Calaveras to defeat the Sailor Team. Petz tried in vain to destroy the staff, but was unsuccessful. Fortunately, the Sailor Team entered the black hole and used their combined power to destroy the staff, collapsing the anomaly. Petz and Calaveras agreed to be purified by Sailor Moon, and were reunited with their sisters. The Phantom Sisters eventually set up a cosmetics business in Tokyo called Beauty Quartette. (072)

Calaveras was later reunited with her ex-superior Saphir, after he arrived in the twentieth century pursued by Wiseman. Saphir was already seriously injured from his last encounter with the sorcerer, and Petz took him to the sisters' house and dressed his injuries. Despite the danger, he insisted on going to speak to Prince Dimande about Wiseman, but he was killed before he could talk to his brother. (086)

Droids used by Calaveras were: Jamanen (065), and Avogadora (066) and Akumuda (069).

Cameran

(Ohno Yuka)

CameranA Youma belonging to Nephrite. Cameran was implanted into Shinokawa Kijin's camera, triggering obsessive behaviour in him. When Kijin's energy peaked, Cameran emerged and battled Sailor Moon. Her primary ability was to photograph people using a third eye in the palm of her hand, causing them to disappear and become trapped inside photographs. Kijin, Sailor Mercury, Sailor Mars and Luna all suffered this fate, but Sailor Moon was able to dodge Cameran's aim and trick her into photographing herself. Now crippled, she was easily destroyed by Sailor Moon, allowing her victims to reappear. (017)

Campanula

(Nishikawa Hiromi)

CampanulaA variety of Flower Youma encountered by the Sailor Team on Fiore's asteroid. Campanula was the most humanlike of the Flower Youma they fought, and had the ability to fly at great speed. Her arms housed retractable blades that were used as weapons while in flight. The monster attempted to intercept the Sailor Team as they teleported onto the asteroid, but she was destroyed when they used Sailor Planet Attack against her. (SMR)

Candy House

An attraction at the Dreamland amusement park, which was actually controlled by the Dark Kingdom. Customers were enticed into the Candy House with the promise of a show, but were then trapped in a dreamlike state by the Youma Murid, who collected their dreaming energy. All of the people reported missing after visiting Dreamland were actually still trapped in the Candy House, never having woken up. The plot was uncovered when Mizuno Ami investigated the attraction, and the building disappeared after the Sailor Senshi defeated Murid. (011)

Capture Gun

A projectile weapon used by Eudial to remove Pure Heart Crystals from their owners. The transparent barrel contained a pink fluid, which became compressed by an expanding column upon the trigger being pulled. This caused the weapon to emit a pulse of black energy capable of penetrating a victim's torso and instantly removing their Pure Heart Crystal. (103) In the Marine Cathedral, Eudial used the weapon to extract the Deep Aqua Mirror from Sailor Neptune, but then dropped it after being attacked by Tsukino Usagi. Realising that she too had a talisman within her, Sailor Uranus used the Capture Gun on herself to remove the Space Sword from her body. (110)

'Capture Gun' is a direct translation of 'Hokaku Juu', the name used for the weapon in the first Sailor Moon S Nakayoshi Guide. The weapon was never named on-screen.

Cardian

Creatures with the ability to drain energy from living things and deliver it to the Makaiju. Ail and An began using Cardians to harvest energy from humans after they realised that the Makaiju was dying off. (047) While their primary use was gathering energy, Cardians were sometimes used for purely combative purposes. (055)

All Cardians were sealed in cards. Typically, An would choose a Cardian and Ail would summon it with his flute. Cardians were strong and agile, with the ability to defend themselves if challenged, but were of limited intelligence: their powers of speech only stretched to saying their own names. All of them were apparently female. (047) When they had served their purpose, they were able to return their cards for future use. (049) If a Cardian was killed, its card form would reappear, now blackened and useless. (047) Severe damage could cause some Cardians to leak energy, which was returned to the people it had been taken from. (054) The remaining Cardians apparently left Earth with Ail and An after the Makaiju was purified. (059)

The Cardians used by Ail and An were: Vampir (047), Minotauron (048), Falion (049), Hell Ant (050), Reci (051), Gigaros (052), Amaderasu (053), Seiren (054) Utonberino (055), Bipierrot (056), Amanju (057) and Yamandakka. (058)

An unidentified "mystery Cardian" also appeared at the beginning of Episode 57, being destroyed by Sailor Moon.

Castor

(Hiramatsu Akiko)

CastorOne of Nephrite's most powerful Youma, alongside her twin Pollux. She and Pollux were implanted into the pencil of animator Matsuno Hiromi, whereupon they played on her jealousy of fellow animator Tadashita Kazuko. Upon emerging, their form was that of two near-identical Youma linked by their knotted tails. According to Nephrite, their combined force was several times greater than that of the Sailor Senshi, and they were indeed powerful, able to use the Fire Soul and Shabon Spray attacks without even seeing them. However, their strength was reliant on their teamwork, and when they began to argue about which would deliver the finishing blow, they were unable to defend themselves against the combined attacks of Sailor Moon, Sailor Mercury and Sailor Mars. Castor was also the name of one of the two stars governing Hiromi's energy. (021)

Cenicienta

(Yoshida Konami)

CenicientaA Daimon overseen by Kaolinite, created from the fusion of an unusually powerful migratory Daimon Egg with one of a pair of glass shoes in Sasaki Arts. Cenicienta was composed of green glass, had a muscular build, and wore metal armour and a helmet. Her black star insignia could be made to appear on her right bicep when she flexed her muscles. Cenicienta had multiple powers: her right hand could transform into a sword, she could blow out a stream of powdered glass that solidified around a target, and could manipulate glass to the extent of trapping victims by inserting them into solid panes of glass.

The glass shoes inhabited by Cenicienta's egg were purchased by Chiba Mamoru as a birthday present for Tsukino Usagi. When Usagi tried the shoes on, Cenicienta emerged and attacked. Usagi took out the Cosmic Heart Compact and prepared to transform into Sailor Moon, but Cenicienta, not realising what it was, batted it away, only for it to be discovered by Kaolinite. The Daimon trapped Usagi in a shop window, and removed her Pure Heart Crystal, but she was then attacked by Tuxedo Kamen and temporarily incapacitated. Usagi's Pure Heart Crystal returned to her, and she escaped with Tuxedo Kamen. Cenicienta and Kaolinite gave chase, eventually cornering the pair in an underground car park. Cenicienta morphed her hand into a sword and began duelling with Tuxedo Kamen, while Usagi tried to run. However, Kaolinite stopped her, and Tuxedo Kamen was caught off-guard by Cenicienta, who sprayed him with powdered glass that solidified around him. (101)

As the rest of the Sailor Team arrived, Kaolinite opted to withdraw, instructing Usagi and the Sailor Team to meet them at Tokyo Tower. She then teleported away with Cenicienta and the frozen Tuxedo Kamen. Usagi met them again at the summit of Tokyo Tower, where Kaolinite ordered her to let them remove her Pure Heart Crystal in return for Tuxedo Kamen's life. Usagi agreed, and Cenicienta extracted the crystal again. However, Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune intercepted it, and announced that despite its brightness, it was not a talisman. Sailor Uranus returned it to Usagi, but Kaolinite resolved to kill Usagi anyway, as she was Sailor Moon. They were suddenly interrupted by the arrival of Sailor Mercury, Sailor Mars, Sailor Jupiter and - apparently - Sailor Moon (actually a disguised Sailor Venus). Sailor Venus announced that Usagi was probably just a fan of hers, and a frustrated Kaolinite threw down the Cosmic Heart Compact, turning her attention to Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune. As she teleported away to battle them, Cenicienta, meanwhile, was left to deal with the Sailor Team. The disguised Sailor Venus used Sailor Kick and Love Me Moon Chain against the Daimon, snapping her sword-arm off at the wrist. While Cenicienta fretted over the warranty, Usagi took the opportunity to transform into Sailor Moon. She then used Moon Spiral Heart Attack against the weakened Daimon, transforming her back into a glass shoe and expelling the Daimon Egg. This also caused the glass around Tuxedo Kamen to shatter, freeing him. Shortly afterwards, Kaolinite used Daimon Growth Medium on the other glass shoe from the pair, granting herself the same powers as Cenicienta. However, this strategy ultimately backfired badly on her, leading to her apparent demise. (102)

Chagama

(Narahashi Miki)

ChagamaA custom Daimon created by Professor Tomoe Souichi for Eudial. Chagama was the product of the fusion of a Daimon Egg with a tea kettle in Tomoe's specially designed oven. She was then sealed into a Daimon Case and delivered by conveyor belt into the back of Eudial's Station Wagon.

Chagama had light green skin, and a large tea whisk covering her head. She wore a kimono, underneath which she was naked apart from some metal, kettle-like underwear. She knelt on a mat that allowed her to levitate and also served as a weapon for wrapping and restraining enemies.

Chagama was released by Eudial at Tamasaburou's tea house, after Sailor Chibi Moon tried to prevent Eudial from obtaining Tamasaburou's Pure Heart Crystal. The Daimon caught both Sailor Chibi Moon and the crystal in her mat, but was then blasted by a Deep Submerge attack from Sailor Neptune, causing her to release them. After it was discovered that the crystal was not a talisman, Eudial quickly left, as did Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune. With the only remaining opposition being Sailor Chibi Moon, Chagama was content to merely sit and drink her tea. Meanwhile, Sailor Chibi Moon attempted to fight Chagama with Pink Sugar Heart Attack, but discovered that the attack's range was insufficient to actually hit the Daimon. Undeterred, Sailor Chibi Moon gradually edged closer until the attack made contact, hitting Chagama in the face but apparently causing no real damage. Sailor Moon eventually arrived to tackle the monster, and Chagama was provoked to attack again, mixing highly corrosive tea and hurling it at her adversaries. A rose from Tuxedo Kamen knocked the cup from her hands, thus prompting her to switch to another tactic. Chagama announced that she would show her guests just how accommodating she could be, and began to take off her clothes. Sailor Moon saved everyone's embarrassment by using Moon Spiral Heart Attack to destroy the Daimon, transforming her back into a tea kettle and expelling the Daimon Egg. (104)

Chain Beam

An attack employed by the Daimon Taiyan while she was split into two copies. Both copies assumed their tyre conformations and fired a glowing chain at their enemies, binding them together. This technique was used successfully against Sailor Moon and Sailor Uranus, tethering them to each other by the arms, and forcing them to retreat. Later, when the two returned to fight the twin Daimons, the attack proved disastrous, as the second chain fired at them merely severed the original, freeing the two Sailor Senshi and allowing them to attack Taiyan's two selves independently. (098)

Chanela

ChanelaA new type of pet sold by Pet Shop Perfume, actually a creation of the Dark Kingdom. The animals were fluffy, light-coloured, and resembled small rabbits. They also gave off a unique perfumed scent and apparently required no food. Upon buying one, however, the owner's attention would become exclusively dedicated to the pet and aggressive towards others. Tsukino Shingo and Kayama Mika both fell for this scheme, and upon investigating the store, Tsukino Usagi briefly fell under the spell of a chanela too. The chanelas' hypnosis later caused the owners, including Shingo and Mika, to return to the pet shop to serve as minions of the Youma Iguara, distributing chanelas across the city. The hypnosis was broken by Sailor Moon's Moon Tiara Stardust, and the chanelas disappeared after the Youma was killed. (005)

Char-chan

Char-chanOne of the cats cared for by Miharu at an abandoned house, soon to be demolished. It received the name from Tsukino Usagi after she came to visit the house. Char-chan came to Miharu's aid when she was attacked by Nekonneru. Usagi later suggested that, after the demolition of the house, Char-chan could be taken to the Great Animal Kingdom. (091)

Charm Buster

Charm BusterMimete's signature attack. It was performed using her staff, and consisted of a stream of pink stars that could incapacitate a large number of people at once. Mimete was first seen using this attack against the audience at the Heroine Audition in Minato Town Hall. (114)

Chateau La Tour

A restaurant investigated by Artemis, who believed it may have bee a base of operations for the Black Moon Clan. It turned out not to be, and he was chased from the premises by an irate chef. (079)

Chess

A board game at which Mizuno Ami was particularly skilled. The Old Chess Man was sufficiently enamoured of the game to build the Chess Tower, an international venue for the game. Ami competed in the World Chess Tournament that was held at the tower, and beat Berthier, also a skilled player, in the finals of the competition. Incensed, Berthier cut off camera access to the room and dropped her disguise, prompting Ami to transform into Sailor Mercury. When the rest of the Sailor Team came to help, they were trapped in a bubble, and Sailor Mercury was forced into a rigged game of chess. Every time she lost a piece, part of her body became encased in ice, and Berthier threatened to kill Ami's friends if she lost. The game was interrupted by Tuxedo Kamen, who removed the chessboard from Berthier's control, releasing Sailor Mercury and the others. (071)

While trapped in U-Ikasaman's multi-dimensional domain, Sailor Mercury challenged the Daimon to a game of chess. Although Sailor Mercury won, U-Ikasaman sabotaged the board, causing it to explode just as she made the winning move. (118)

Chess Master

A book consulted by Tsukino Usagi while playing chess against Mizuno Ami. Even with its help, she failed to secure a victory. (071)

Chess Tower

A venue for chess competitions, located on a Crystal Point in Tokyo. The building was shaped like a castle chess piece, and was owned by the Old Chess Man. It served as the venue for the World Chess Tournament in which Mizuno Ami and Berthier competed, although Berthier's attendance was mainly due to her mission to contaminate the building's Crystal Point with Dark Power. Prior to the tournament, Ami transformed into Sailor Mercury in order to prevent Berthier from accomplishing this, but Berthier orchestrated her revenge after Ami beat her in the final of the tournament. Berthier cut off the cameras relaying the match, and trapped the Sailor Team in a bubble, threatening to kill them unless Sailor Mercury could beat her in a heavily rigged game of chess. The crisis was averted after Berthier was betrayed by her older sisters, and Koan persuaded her to be purified by Sailor Moon. (071)

Chiba Mamoru

(Furuya Tohru)

Chiba MamoruA student at KO University (015), the reincarnation of Prince Endymion and also the true identity of Tuxedo Kamen. Unlike the Sailor Senshi, Mamoru was not initially aware of his other self, nor was Tuxedo Kamen aware of him. He transformed into his alter ego when he sensed that Sailor Moon was in danger, but remembered nothing afterwards. It was only after finding the Orange Rainbow Crystal that he became aware of his other identity. (019, 026, 035)

Mamoru was the son of a rich family. (015) At the age of six, he was involved in a car accident that killed both of his parents. He miraculously survived, but was left with no memories of his life up to that point. (034) While in hospital after the accident, the young Mamoru befriended the alien Fiore, but his new friend soon had to leave Earth after he discovered his body was incompatible with the planet. Mamoru was devastated to lose his friend, but was comforted by a small girl - actually the young Tsukino Usagi - who gave him a rose. Mamoru gave the rose to Fiore as he left, and Fiore promised to return to Mamoru with lots of flowers. Mamoru later wrote off the whole incident as a hallucination. (SMR)

Mamoru apparently had a fear of needles, and avoided injections whenever possible. (097) Despite his affluence, he worked during his spell in college, employed for a while by TV Ashita (048), and later a resort hotel. (105) He had difficulty selecting a subject to major in, as his interest spanned such areas as physics, computing, anthropology and even cookery. (108)

Upon first meeting Tsukino Usagi in adult life, Mamoru was aloof and quick to criticise, often enraging her. When his friend Furuhata Motoki told him not to treat Usagi like a child, Mamoru replied that he always seemed to end up teasing her, and they were probably destined not to get along. (017) Around this time, Mamoru began tentatively dating Hino Rei, whom he met after rescuing Luna from a truck. (015) However, Mamoru seemed unable to commit to the relationship, as he was continually troubled by dreams relating to his double identity and the urge to find the Silver Crystal. He also became closer to Usagi after their encounter with Yumeno Yumemi. (028, 031) Following a battle with Zoisite in which he was stabbed, the identity of Tuxedo Kamen was discovered, and Zoisite was soon able to track Mamoru down and challenge him to a duel at the Star Light Tower to determine the rightful owner of the Rainbow Crystals. Mamoru agreed, but was in no fit state to fight, and found himself pursued by a concerned Usagi. The pair were beamed inside the tower by Zoisite, where Mamoru was fooled into handing over his crystals to Kunzite. Mamoru did succeed injuring Zoisite's face, but this only enraged the general, who disobeyed Queen Beryl's orders and tried to kill Mamoru. Mamoru foiled the first attempt by transforming into Tuxedo Kamen, revealing his identity to Usagi (who, he had just discovered, was Sailor Moon). Zoisite's second attempt proved more successful, however, and Tuxedo Kamen was stabbed and mortally wounded. (034) As the Silver Crystal reformed, triggered by Sailor Moon's grief, Mamoru's memory of his past life as Endymion began to surface. Now helpless and dying, he was abducted by Kunzite and taken to the Dark Kingdom, where Queen Metalia's dark energy was used to revive him. (035) Now under her control, he assumed his former identity of Prince Endymion and went to battle the Sailor Senshi for the Silver Crystal. (036)

After a mission to reunite the seven former Rainbow Crystal holders failed, Endymion was cornered by Sailor Moon, who used Moon Healing Escalation to restore Mamoru's original personality. However, no sooner had he come to his senses than he was recaptured by the Dark Kingdom, and the process of brainwashing was resumed. (041)

Mamoru finally regained his humanity after Queen Beryl commanded him to kill Sailor Moon. Unable to heal him as she had done previously, Sailor Moon held out the Orgel she had received from Tuxedo Kamen. Upon touching it, Mamoru's memories returned. He protected Sailor Moon from Queen Beryl's subsequent attack, and seriously injured Beryl, but was mortally wounded himself and died shortly afterwards. He was returned to life by the Silver Crystal, and resumed his previous life in Tokyo, but had no memories of the Sailor Senshi or his time as Tuxedo Kamen. (046)

Sailor Moon and her colleagues eventually had their memories restored by Luna, but the same process was not possible for Mamoru. Indeed, Mamoru was baffled as to why Usagi, with whom he could remember having had only two encounters, both of them hostile, was suddenly so enamoured of him. (048)  However, he soon grew used to Usagi's presence. Usagi and her friends came to his assistance when a casting dispute left him unable to fulfil a commitment to put on a play at Juuban Hall, and this led to the creation of Snow White and the Six Dwarves. (056) Eventually, after an encounter with the enraged Makaiju, Mamoru's memories returned and he became unified with the Moonlight Knight, who had existed as a manifestation of his desire to protect Sailor Moon. (059)

With his memory restored, Mamoru was finally able to return Usagi's affection. However, a date of theirs was interrupted when Chibi Usa suddenly fell from the sky. Mamoru soon began to have strange visions of the future, apparently triggered by the child. (060) The visions persisted, even away from Chibi Usa, and eventually compelled Mamoru to break up with Usagi. Usagi was bewildered by his sudden change of heart, but he refused to give in, eventually saying that he despised weak girls. (061) Mamoru soon became haunted by a voice warning him that if he became too close to Usagi, she would suffer a disaster. Although he suspected he was being deceived, he opted to keep away from Usagi until he could determine the origin of the visions. (069) Eventually, Usagi experienced the same dream, and realised why Mamoru had become so distant. She informed him of this, and they became close again. (077)

Around this time, Mamoru was surprised to discover, that Fiore, who he had long since dismissed as a hallucination brought on by the stress of losing his parents, was real. Fiore returned to Earth, having collected flowers from all over the galaxy for Mamoru, but had become corrupted by the power of the Xenian Flower. After accidentally injuring Mamoru in a fight with Sailor Moon, Fiore took him to his asteroid above the Earth in order to heal him. Mamoru later escaped from his confinement in order to help the Sailor Team in their battle with Fiore, and assisted in freeing his old friend from the Xenian Flower's control. (SMR)

As Tuxedo Kamen, Mamoru travelled to the future with Chibi Usa and the Sailor Team. While lost in the Space-Time Corridor, he once again heard the voice from his dream, who guided him to safety. (082) He was surprised to discover that this voice was his future self, King Endymion, who had sent the dreams as a test of the strength of his relationship with Usagi. (083) Mamoru returned to the twentieth century with the Sailor Team after the Black Moon Clan initiated their final attack there. (085)

Chibi Usa

(Araki Kae)

Chibi UsaThe princess of the future city of Crystal Tokyo, real name Tsukino Usagi. (060) Chibi Usa is the future ruler of the city, as well as Sailor Chibi Moon, an apprentice Sailor Senshi. (103)

Background: Chibi Usa was the daughter of Neo Queen Serenity and King Endymion, the rulers of Earth. (083) She was often taunted for lacking her mother's grace, so one day, in frustration, she attempted to use the Silver Crystal. To her horror, the crystal disappeared as soon as she touched it, leaving Crystal Tokyo open to attack by the Black Moon Clan. Repressing the memory of her transgression, she  fled using the Space-Time Key to twentieth century Juuban in the hopes of finding a way to save her family. (068, 084)Chibi Usa was a nickname given to her to avoid confusion with the other Tsukino Usagi. (060, 061)

Chibi Usa's first act upon arriving was to demand the Silver Crystal from Usagi, as she had heard that Usagi owned it. Later, she infiltrated Usagi's home, using Luna-P to hypnotise Tsukino Ikuko, Tsukino Kenji and Tsukino Shingo into believing that she was a cousin who had come to stay. (060, 061)

Chibi Usa followed Usagi to the Hikawa Shrine, and drugged Rei's Grandfather, Mizuno Ami, Hino Rei, Kino Makoto and Aino Minako with a sleeping potion. But Usagi caught her and spanked her, causing a crescent moon to appear on Chibi Usa's head, illuminating the area. Koan of the Black Moon Clan then arrived, announcing that Chibi Usa was the 'Rabbit' that they had been searching for. Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Kamen fought her off, but it became clear that Chibi Usa was fleeing from some as yet unknown danger. (060) More clues to her origin emerged after Chibi Usa tried to use the Space-Time Key to return home, only for the key to fail and neutralise gravity for a brief period. (064) Chibi Usa eventually revealed her plight to Sailor Moon, who agreed to help her save her family. (068) A few weeks later, Chibi Usa witnessed Usagi and her friends transforming into the Sailor Team, and saw Sailor Moon using the Silver Crystal. (072) This prompted her to steal the Crystal Star brooch containing the Silver Crystal in an effort to take it with her to the future. Unfortunately, Rubeus detected her and attempted to beam her on board his UFO. Although he was unsuccessful, he managed to kidnap Sailor Mercury, Sailor Mars, Sailor Jupiter and Sailor Venus. (073) Chibi Usa returned the brooch to Usagi, but remained guilty about her role in the abductions, and went with Sailor Moon in order to face Rubeus. Both were beamed onto the UFO, and while Sailor Moon fought Rubeus, Chibi Usa searched for a way to disable the ship's force fields and free the captured Sailor Senshi. She eventually managed to remove the ship's central crystal, robbing Rubeus of his powers and dooming the vessel. The Sailor Team used Sailor Teleport to return themselves and Chibi Usa to Earth, after which Rubeus was killed when the UFO exploded. (074)

Chibi Usa became seriously ill shortly afterwards, as the Evil Black Crystal invaded her mind and put her in a comatose state, subjecting her to nightmares. She was saved after Sailor Pluto, communicating with the Sailor Team via Luna-P, transported them inside her dreams. Once there, Sailor Moon succeeded in winning over the frightened, confused Chibi Usa and defeating the Evil Black Crystal's influence. (075) Later, after her school was attacked by the Black Moon Clan, Chibi Usa decided she had to return to the future. (081) She successfully used the Space-Time Key to open a portal to the Space-Time Door, and led the Sailor Team to the thirtieth century. (082) However, she soon left the safety of the Crystal Palace in distress, and was abducted by Wiseman. He unmasked her repressed memories and began to manipulate them, convincing her that she would be unjustly blamed for the attack on the city. Confused and frightened, Chibi Usa agreed to accept Wiseman's 'help'. (084) With Wiseman's power, Chibi Usa was transformed into Black Lady and became an ally of the Black Moon Clan. (085)

Black Lady repeatedly evaded Sailor Moon's attempts to change her back into Chibi Usa. Eventually, Sailor Moon used the Silver Crystal to transform into Neo Queen Serenity, and in this form managed to restore Chibi Usa to normal. Sailor Moon, in the form of Neo Queen Serenity, then took on Wiseman and the full power of the Evil Black Crystal. Chibi Usa became hysterical and said that the whole situation was her fault, as she had destroyed the Silver Crystal of the future. Suddenly, one of her tears took on the form of the crystal, and she realised that she had not destroyed it but taken it into her body. Armed with the future Silver Crystal, Chibi Usa transformed into princess attire and joined her mother. With the added power of the rest of the Sailor Team, Chibi Usa and Neo Queen Serenity used both Silver Crystals in parallel to obliterate Wiseman and the Evil Black Crystal. Although the use of the two Silver Crystals should have killed both of them, the crystals brought about a miracle, and both Chibi Usa and Sailor Moon survived the experience. (088)

Chibi Usa returned home shortly afterwards to find that Crystal Tokyo had been restored to its previous utopian state. (088) Now that her power was unlocked, Chibi Usa began to train as a Sailor Senshi, and became Sailor Chibi Moon. Her mother sent her back to the twentieth century to train with the Sailor Team of the past, and to make friends. (103, 104)

Character: The Chibi Usa who returned to the twentieth century as Sailor Chibi Moon was very different to the frightened child who had departed just a few months earlier. Now older and more confident, Chibi Usa adopted a persevering attitude despite the relative weakness and unreliability of her powers. Her once childlike animosity towards Usagi, her future mother, had matured into a more calculated from of antagonism. (103)

Friendships: During her stays in Juuban, it was arranged for Chibi Usa to attend Juuban Municipal Primary School. (061) Her best friends there included Momohara Momoko and Sarashina Kyuusuke. (081) Before her second visit to the twentieth century, her mother told her to try and make more friends. However, this mission got off to a tricky start when the first boy she encountered, Shinnosuke, turned out to be somewhat behaviourally abnormal. Tamasaburou appeared to be a more promising candidate, but Chibi Usa went off him after he discovered a penchant for cross-dressing. (104)

Chibi Usa's strongest friendship was with Tomoe Hotaru. They met in Juuban Natural Park, after a gust of wind blew Chibi Usa's hat away and Hotaru retrieved it. When Chibi Usa was slightly injured protecting Hotaru from the Daimon U-Estern, the girl revealed her strange ability to heal injuries instantly. She was surprised when Chibi Usa was not repulsed by the unusual ability. From that point on, the two girls became friends. (112) After Hotaru's latent powers began to surface, she began to worry that she would inadvertently harm her friend, and decided to keep away from her. (115) Chibi Usa later persuaded Hotaru to remain friends with her. (116) Even after hearing that Hotaru was Sailor Saturn, with the potential to wipe out all life on Earth, Chibi Usa remained protective of her friend. (119) When Hotaru disappeared following the final battle with the Death Busters, Chibi Usa learned from Sailor Pluto that she had been reincarnated. A few moments later, she encountered Hotaru, now a baby, and bade her a temporary farewell. (126)

Romance: Chibi Usa was occasionally known to claim that Mamoru, her future father, was her boyfriend: however, this seemed mostly to be a calculated ruse to annoy Usagi. Upon arriving for her second stay in the twentieth century, she seemed attracted to Shinnosuke and Tamasaburou, although both boys were soon rejected due to their quirks. (104) A more serious candidate for her affection was the artistic prodigy Tsuzuki Masanori, on whom Chibi Usa developed a crush in her classes at Juuban Art School. She made an apple pie for him which was inadvertently eaten by Usagi, but eventually won his affections by helping him when he was attacked by Eudial. Masanori later made a sculpture of Chibi Usa and gave it to her as a present. (107)

The nickname 'Chibi Usa' was first given to the character in Episode 61. Chibi Usa initially resents the name, but warms to it after Mamoru says he likes it. Curiously, Kyuusuke also comes up with the same nickname quite independently of Usagi and Mamoru.

Chikuon

(Abe Michiko)

ChikuonA custom Daimon created by Professor Tomoe Souichi for Eudial. Chikuon was the product of the fusion of a Daimon Egg with a gramophone playing a copy of Hope for the Future in Tomoe's specially designed oven. She was then sealed into a Daimon Case and delivered by conveyor belt into the back of Eudial's Station Wagon.

Chikuon had light green skin and two very different physical forms. In the first form, she wore a large bleached wig, an ornate dress and a mask that covered her eyes. Her dress was adorned with blue flowers that could be picked off and used as energy weapons. Once her dress was removed, her second form was revealed. This form betrayed her origins as a gramophone: a handle protruded from her right hip, while a gramophone's turntable and bell rested on her left shoulder. Her hair in this form as brown and tightly sculpted, resembling wood.

Chikuon was released by Eudial in Edwards' mansion in order to battle Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune: Eudial had just removed Edwards' Pure Heart Crystal. By the time Chikuon had struggled out of the Station Wagon in her unwieldy dress, the Sailor Team had also arrived. Chikuon began attacking them with the roses from her dress, charging them with energy then hurling them at the Sailor Team. Eventually, Sailor Uranus intervened with a World Shaking attack, which only succeeded in destroying the Daimon's dress, revealing her second form underneath.

In this form, Chikuon's first attack was Hell's Waltz, which consisted of her firing giant musical notation at the Sailor Team. After Sailor Moon complained that this only constituted a music-based attack in the vaguest possible sense, Chikuon obliged by initiating her second attack, the Devil's Yodel. Placing a record on her turntable, she began yodelling so badly that the sound was supposedly able to destroy the central nervous system. Fortunately, the record was shattered by one of Tuxedo Kamen's roses. Furious, the Daimon pulled off her gramophone's bell and threw it at Tuxedo Kamen, realising too late that she had just disposed of her only weapon. Sailor Moon then destroyed Chikuon with Moon Spiral Heart Attack, returning her to the form of a gramophone and expelling the Daimon Egg. (108)

Chiral

(Ebara Masashi)

ChiralA male Droid used by Esmeraude to protect a very powerful Dark Henge planted at Juuban Municipal Primary School. Chiral worked with his twin, Achiral, who was guarding another Dark Henge in the nearby Juuban Park. Both of them were extremely powerful, possessing the ability to fire huge quantities of Dark Power and move through solid objects. They could also create a solid barrier of Dark Power to trap their enemies.

Chiral remained at the primary school, where the Dark Henge had begun to seriously affect the behaviour of the pupils and teachers there. When Chibi Usa arrived at the school and discovered that anarchy had broken out, she called Sailor Moon for help. Sailor Moon arrived and was confronted by Chiral. Meanwhile, the rest of the Sailor Team encountered Achiral in the park, and were told to come to the school for a final battle. Achiral joined his twin at the school and the pair faced off against Sailor Moon and Chibi Usa. The rest of the Sailor Team arrived too, and Chiral disappeared. Achiral, meanwhile, was accompanied by Momohara Momoko, who had been corrupted by the Dark Power and tried to attack the Sailor Team. Chiral reappeared behind them and blasted Sailor Jupiter, while Achiral used the distraction to seal the Sailor Team, Chibi Usa and Momoko inside a Dark Power barrier, bombarding them with energy. As Chibi Usa struggled to help Momoko, her energy was suddenly released, neutralising the barrier but revealing her as the 'Rabbit' sought by the Black Moon Clan. The shock restored Momoko's personality, but Achiral quickly fired a burst of energy at her and Chibi Usa, hoping to kill their target. Momoko blocked the energy and was knocked out cold. Horrified, Chibi Usa let out an incredible burst of power that sent the Droids flying out of the building. Sailor Moon, Sailor Mars and Sailor Jupiter left the building to continue the fight. Chiral and Achiral hid in the ground and attempted a sneak attack on the Sailor Team, but were blocked by Tuxedo Kamen. Sailor Moon quickly initiated Moon Princess Halation, but the Droids tried to shelter from it under the ground. Sailor Jupiter forced them back out with Sparkling Wide Pressure, and both Chiral and Achiral were caught in Sailor Moon's attack. As they died, both of the Dark Henges shattered, and their influence over the school was removed. (081)

Chokokkar

(Kataishi Chiharu)

ChokokkarA custom Daimon created by Professor Tomoe Souichi for Eudial. Chokokkar was the product of the fusion of a Daimon Egg with a box of sculpting chisels in Tomoe's specially designed oven. She was then sealed into a Daimon Case and delivered by conveyor belt into the back of Eudial's Station Wagon.

Chokokkar's skin was clay-like and of various colours. She had white skin on the right hand side of her body, and a mixture of blue and purple on the left. She also had green hair, but only on the right side of her head. She wore a red hat, and a large yellow coat which contained sets of chisels used as weapons. Chokokkar's main ability was to create small sculptures out of sand which, when augmented by one of her earrings, would grow into large, autonomous stone monsters. Her other weapon was a coat-hanger that could be used to create a protective field of increased gravity.

Chokokkar was released by Eudial in the Juuban Art School, and was ordered to take care of Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune while Eudial obtained Tsuzuki Masanori's Pure Heart Crystal. The Daimon attacked with her chisels, and the two Sailor Senshi drew her outside to continue the battle. Chokokkar soon discovered how powerful her adversaries were, and created two sculptures in a nearby sandpit. The first, Beyond the Massacre, attacked Sailor Uranus, and the second, The Ambition of Silence, tackled Sailor Neptune. With her main opponents occupied, Chokokkar was then confronted by Sailor Moon and Sailor Chibi Moon, who aimed a Double Sailor Moon Kick at her. The Daimon countered with her coat-hanger weapon, pinning the two Senshi to the ground with the gravitational field it generated. However, Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune had since discovered that her creations were vulnerable to water, and surmised that she herself might have a similar weakness. Sailor Neptune aimed a Deep Submerge attack at the Daimon, crippling her and causing her claylike body to start dissolving. Sailor Chibi Moon kept her immobilised with a Pink Sugar Heart Attack while Sailor Moon charged up Moon Spiral Heart Attack, an attack that killed Chokokkar, transforming her back into a box of chisels and expelling the Daimon Egg. (107)

Cinderella Caravan

A bogus enterprise established by Jadeite and the Youma Derella, disguised as the idol Shiratori Mikan. Its purpose was to fixate members of the public on the idea of becoming famous by hypnotising them, then collecting the energy generated by the obsession. Osaka Naru, Umino Gurio, Kuri and Yumiko were all victims of the scheme, and were driven to attend a fake show at Shan Shan Plaza, at which Derella attempted to take the energy of the performers. The victims were all rendered unconscious, but the Youma was beaten by Sailor Moon, and their energy was returned. (007)

Cinema Club

Clock Look

A fake business selling discounted clocks and watches in Harajuku, created by Jadeite in order to gather energy for the Dark Kingdom. The cursed clocks contained no physical mechanism, and at midnight they released a beam which altered the time perception of their owners, causing them to believe that they were constantly late. The amplified energy generated by this impatience was then collected in a giant clock located in the store and guarded by a Youma, Ramua.  The clocks triggered chaos in Tokyo, but Luna and Sailor Mercury were able to trace the disturbances back to the store. Meanwhile, all of Tsukino Usagi's family, plus Osaka Naru, Umino Gurio and Sakurada Haruna had been affected by the clocks. Sailor Moon and Sailor Mercury broke into the store and entered the giant clock to battle Ramua. Although the Youma had the upper hand for a while when Sailor Moon collapsed from depleted energy, Tuxedo Kamen appeared and cracked the face of the clock, allowing the energy to return to its owners. Sailor Moon and Sailor Mercury then killed the Youma, and the shop disappeared. (009)

The first communicators were small, flat and pink, with a series of buttons and a circular screen for visual contact. (017) They were later replaced by a set of wristwatch-like devices, provided by Luna and Artemis at the same time as the second set of transformation pens. (062) Sailor Moon's communicator was damaged during an altercation with Kaolinite in an underground car park. (101)

Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune used similar watch-style communicators of unknown origin. (096)

Cormorants inspired Professor Tomoe Souichi to create a new series of Daimons capable of sucking a Pure Heart Crystal out of a victim, swallowing it, then holding it in their throats until they returned to the base. After demonstrating the principle with some cormorant models, he began production and supplied the new Daimons to Mimete. (112)

Cosmic Botany

A science that Ginga Seijuurou claimed to have an interest in, after Tsukino Usagi saw the Makaiju in his Juuban Odyssey apartment. (058)

Cosmic Heart Compact

The third transformation brooch used by Tsukino Usagi to transform into Sailor Moon. The brooch was created from the damaged Crystal Star, apparently through the power of Sailor Moon's love for Tuxedo Kamen, and her desire to fight alongside her friends. The brooch contained the Silver Crystal, now pink and crafted into a heart shape. The transformation phrase required to use it was "Moon Cosmic Power, Make Up." (091) The brooch was stolen from Usagi by Kaolinite after she noticed its similarity to Sailor Moon's brooch, but was later returned after a disguised Sailor Venus convinced her that Usagi was not Sailor Moon. (101, 102) It was later stolen again, this time by Tenoh Haruka, in an effort to prevent Usagi from transforming into Sailor Moon and interfering with her forthcoming battle with Eudial. After realising that one of the talismans was within her own body, Sailor Uranus returned the brooch to Sailor Moon at the Marine Cathedral. (110) Physical contact with the compact had a strange effect on Tomoe Hotaru, briefly causing the Messiah of Silence to overwhelm her personality. (113) After the Holy Grail was destroyed, Sailor Moon combined her Pure Heart Crystal with the compact in order to become Super Sailor Moon. (125)

Countdown Fifty

The television music chart show presented by the DJ Thomas Harris. His presentation style involved copious use of English phrases. (119)

Crane Game Joe

(Ohkura Masaaki)

Crane Game JoeAn expert at arcade crane games, legendary for his ability to win every item in an arcade's crane machine. Joe's ability was actually due to a psychic power he had possessed since birth, allowing him to move objects using his mind. Upon visiting the Crown Game Centre, Joe found himself to be the object of Kino Makoto's affection, as he bore a close resemblance to her beloved sempai. He was also the subject of unwanted attention from Zoisite, as he had been identified as a reincarnation of one of the Seven Great Youma, and the holder of the Red Rainbow Crystal. Zoisite's first attempt at taking the crystal was thwarted by Makoto's intervention, although Joe plaintively told Makoto that he had no interest in her. Zoisite succeeded in removing the crystal on the second attempt, causing Joe to transform into the Youma Gesen. Sailor Moon battled the monster, and during the fight Makoto discovered that she was Sailor Jupiter. Luna gave Sailor Moon the Moon Stick in order to return Joe to his original form. (025)

Joe was attacked again a few months later, this time by Prince Endymion, who sealed him in the Black Crystal. He was freed some time later by Sailor Mercury. (041)

Crayon Shin-chan

A long-running anime and manga series about a mischievous small boy who routinely embarrasses his parents. Shinnosuke possessed a doll of the titular character, and was obviously a fan, considering the extent to which the character had influenced his behaviour. (104)

Crisis Make Up

The transformation phrase used by Sailor Moon to transform into Super Sailor Moon using the power of the Holy Grail. The resulting transformation was very physically demanding, and could only be maintained for a few minutes before it failed and she was transformed back into Sailor Moon. (112)

Sailor Moon lost the ability to perform this transformation when the Holy Grail was consumed by Pharaoh 90. However, she managed to become Super Sailor Moon thanks to the donated power of Sailor Mercury, Sailor Mars, Sailor Jupiter, Sailor Venus, Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune. Their power allowed her to expose her own Pure Heart Crystal and complete the transformation. (125)

The "Crisis Make Up" transformation sequence is first seen in Episode 111, but the phrase is not used until the following episode.

Crown Game Centre

An arcade in Juuban, for whom Furuhata Motoki worked, often frequented by Tsukino Usagi and her friends. (002) The arcade acquired Sailor V: The Game, which unbeknownst to the management was adapted to allow Luna to communicate with her contact (actually Artemis), for advice on battling the Dark Kingdom. (008, 037) Towards the end of the Dark Kingdom conflict, the Sailor Senshi used the building as a base of operations, apparently unbeknownst to its owners. (042) Crane Game Joe once visited the arcade, using his powers to win hundreds of toys on the crane game. (025)

Crystal Disk

A floppy disk produced by the Crystal Seminar for use as a study aid. In actual fact, it was a Dark Kingdom brainwashing program, which compelled its users to willingly sacrifice their mental energy to the Dark Kingdom. Tsukino Usagi and Luna discovered this after Mizuno Ami, who they had recently met, left her disk at the Crown Game Centre. As it turned out, Ami had not used the disk, and was therefore immune to the Dark Kingdom's energy harvesting technique. (008)

Crystal Palace

The central building in Crystal Tokyo, home to Neo Queen Serenity, King Endymion  and Chibi Usa. (075, 083) The huge, crystalline building was protected from the Black Moon Clan's attacks due to an almost impenetrable shield, originating from numerous Crystal Points and maintained by the Sailor Team of the thirtieth century. The rest of the city suffered enormous damage, while both King Endymion and Neo Queen Serenity were incapacitated as a result of the attack. After fleeing to the past, Chibi Usa later returned to the palace with the twentieth century Sailor Team. King Endymion guided them to a stronghold in the palace where he explained their situation. (083) The palace's shields later came under attack from the Esmeraude Dragon, and the Sailor Team were forced to destroy the creature in order to protect the palace. (084) Ultimately the palace was saved after Sailor Moon and Chibi Usa defeated Wiseman in the twentieth century, neutralising the Evil Black Crystal and its influence. Neo Queen Serenity was awakened by the use of the Silver Crystal and restored the palace and the city to its original state. (088)

Crystal Point

Any one of a number of points around the city of Tokyo that naturally produced Crystal Power. In the future city of Crystal Tokyo, Crystal Points were the foundations of the city centre's protective barriers. Rubeus sought to exploit this knowledge by attacking the future locations of these points in the present day, contaminating them with Dark Power and making them less stable in the future. (061)

The Crystal Point locations included: the Otafukya cosmetics store (061), the Bob-Floy ice cream store (062), the Hikawa Shrine (063), the Lucky Charms House (065), the Juuban Supermarket (066) and the Chess Tower. (071)

Crystal Power

A form of energy produced by the Crystal Points spread around Tokyo. The energy made the points suitable as the foundations for the protective barrier surrounding the future city of Crystal Tokyo. Crystal Power could be neutralised by an excess amount of Dark Power, and Rubeus and the Phantom Sisters travelled to present day Tokyo with the intention of doing just that. (062)

Crystal Seminar

A cram school established by the Dark Kingdom in order to collect the mental energy of students. The school offered prep courses at all levels, and was run by the Youma Garoben. The Crystal Disk was one of its main selling points, and the means by which the unsuspecting students' energy was collected. Prior to her awakening as Sailor Mercury, Mizuno Ami had a scholarship for the school. Sailor Moon later discovered the Dark Kingdom plot, and she and Sailor Mercury killed the Youma and freed the students. (008)

Crystal Star

The second transformation brooch used by Tsukino Usagi to transform into Sailor Moon. It was given to her by Queen Serenity, who merged the Silver Crystal with the remnants of the first transformation brooch, which had broken in the middle of a battle due to Usagi's reluctance to be a Sailor Senshi again. The new brooch was powered by the Silver Crystal, which had lost some of its power since the battle with the Dark Kingdom but would, Queen Serenity claimed, eventually regain it. Usagi activated the brooch with the phrase: "Moon Crystal Power, Make Up", and regained her ability to become Sailor Moon. (051) The brooch was stolen by Chibi Usa after she discovered it contained the Silver Crystal. (073) However, after her actions led to some of the Sailor Team being abducted by Rubeus, Chibi Usa returned the brooch to Usagi. (074)

The brooch was badly damaged when Sailor Moon encountered the Daimon Mikuji. Mikuji tore the brooch away from Sailor Moon, reversing her transformation and causing the Silver Crystal's light to fade. (090) Soon after, Usagi's dedication to Tuxedo Kamen and her friends caused the brooch to morph  into a new design, the Cosmic Heart Compact. (091)

Crystal Tokyo

A future form of the city of Tokyo, home to Chibi Usa and the Sailor Senshi of the future. (060, 068) The city was founded after Neo Queen Serenity awoke in the thirtieth century, bringing the Earth out of an ice age that had kept the planet frozen for centuries. Serenity was installed as the ruler of Earth, and took up residence in the Crystal Palace at the city's centre along with her husband, King Endymion. (083)   Highly crystalline in structure, the centre of the city had protective barriers which were founded upon a series of strategically placed Crystal Points. The Black Moon Clan sought to destroy the palace, but the barriers remained impenetrable to their ships. They opted to destabilise the Crystal Points in the past, and sent their forces to the twentieth century to accomplish this. (060, 061, 068)  Damage to the outer portion of the city was extensive, however, and the attack seriously injured King Endymion. Neo Queen Serenity was also targeted, but the Sailor Team sealed her into a protective block of crystal, from which she could not subsequently be removed. Desperate for help, Chibi Usa travelled to the twentieth century in search of the legendary Sailor Moon of the past. (083)

Chibi Usa later brought the Sailor Team of the twentieth century to the ruined Crystal Tokyo through the Space-Time Corridor. They were met by a psychic projection of King Endymion, who guided them to a special chamber inside the Crystal Palace, where he explained the city's founding and the current attacks. Prince Dimande briefly managed to penetrate the chamber's defences and kidnapped Sailor Moon, taking her to the Black Moon Clan's forward base on the outskirts of the city. However, Tuxedo Kamen soon rescued her with Endymion's help. (083) The Sailor Team left the city after Chibi Usa disappeared, and Sailor Pluto detected her travelling back to the twentieth century. (085) Ultimately, the city was saved after Sailor Moon and Chibi Usa defeated Wiseman in the twentieth century, neutralising the Evil Black Crystal and its influence. Neo Queen Serenity was awakened by the use of the Silver Crystal and restored the city to its original state. (088)

Cyprine

(Fuchizaki Yuriko)

CyprineThe last of the Witches 5. A powerful sorcerer, Cyprine fought in tandem with her mysterious twin, Ptilol. Their signature attack was the powerful Ribbon Buster.

Cyprine was called to duty by Professor Tomoe Souichi after the rest of the Witches 5 had been killed in battle. She planned to remove Pure Heart Crystals from the students of Mugen Academy through hypnosis, and succeeded in summoning the students to the campus. There, they were forced to give their Pure Heart Crystals up to a statue of the Messiah of Silence. During this process, Cyprine noticed that Tsukino Usagi and her friends had infiltrated the building. Teleporting them up to the professor's office, Cyprine announced that she knew who they were, prompting them to transform. The Sailor Team attempted to fight her, but soon realised that she was not alone. Ptilol joined the battle, and the pair proved impossible to fight, as attacking one simply provoked retaliation from the other. Eventually, Sailor Mercury obscured their vision using Shabon Spray, then Sailor Jupiter managed to persuade Cyprine to chase after her. The twins now separated, attempted to fire Ribbon Busters at the Sailor Team but unwittingly fired on each other. The force of the attacks was enough to kill both of them, also shattering the statue and returning the Pure Heart Crystals to their owners. (123)
