Dahlian

DahlianA variety of Flower Youma controlled by Fiore and the Xenian Flower. The Dahlians were humanoid above the waist, but had long, snakelike lower bodies. There were thousands of them on Fiore's asteroid, and on his command they were able to act as one against the Sailor Team. However, the Dahlians were weak defensively, and individuals were easily destroyed by the Sailor Team's attacks. Sailor Moon destroyed a huge number with Moon Princess Halation, but more Dahlians kept popping up where the others had fallen. Eventually, Fiore commanded them to form a single, gigantic mass, which fell down upon Sailor Mercury, Sailor Mars, Sailor Jupiter and Sailor Venus. Fiore told Sailor Moon that unless she stopped fighting, her friends would be killed. Sailor Moon agreed, and her desire to protect her friends began to affect Fiore directly, loosening the Xenian Flower's control of him. The Dahlians around him wilted, but the Xenian Flower reasserted control and merged further with his body. The Dahlians eventually disappeared, apparently for good, after Fiore was attacked by Tuxedo Kamen, and act that caused all of the flowers on the asteroid to disappear. (SMR)

Daiheart

(Neya Michiko)

DaiheartA Daimon overseen by Kaolinite, created from the fusion of a migratory Daimon Egg with a heart-shaped statue in Lover's Park. Daiheart was humanoid in appearance, with very light skin and a glowing, heart-shaped breastplate into which she could reach in order to trigger her magic abilities. Her black star insignia was located on her left cheek.

Daiheart appeared as Umino Gurio and Osaka Naru, having just won the park's Affection Contest, stepped up to illuminate the statue. The Daimon attacked Umino and began to remove his Pure Heart Crystal. The Sailor Team confronted her, and she retaliated with Let's Dancing, a power that created five illusory men that began dancing with them. After a while, the men transformed, becoming monsters that trapped the Sailor Team and began shocking them. Meanwhile, Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune intervened. Sailor Uranus used World Shaking against Daiheart, breaking her concentration and causing the monsters to disappear. Sailor Moon then used Moon Spiral Heart Attack to destroy Daiheart, who reverted back to the form of the statue, expelling the Daimon Egg. (095)

Daimon

A class of monster employed for scouting and attack purposes by the Death Busters. Daimons were created from the fusion of a Daimon Egg with an inanimate object of either organic or inorganic nature. All of the major classes of Daimon were female and humanoid. Much stronger than Youma, Cardians and Droids, Daimons were resistant to many of the attacks previously employed by the Sailor Team. When a Daimon was killed, the form of the object it fused with was restored, and the original Daimon Egg was expelled, breaking to release a spectral evil spirit. (090, 091) It was still possible to deploy Daimons without combining the eggs with objects: in this case, Daimons would emerge from the eggs as red, liquid-based creatures. These undifferentiated Daimons were weaker than true Daimons, but in sufficient numbers could combine with each other to create an overwhelming force. (124)

The first Daimon on Earth, and amongst the last to be destroyed, was Germatoid. This being, the only known male Daimon, crossed over from the Tau Nebula and took control of Professor Tomoe Souichi's body. As the professor, he established the Death Busters and was responsible for the nurturing and development of all subsequent Daimons. (124)

The earliest known Daimons to be deployed in battle differed significantly from their more advanced successors, and were actually created from humans. Very little is known of these prototypic forms, except that they emerged suddenly from infected humans, and were massive, snakelike creatures with multiple tentacles and large teeth. The creatures were fought by Sailor Neptune and later Sailor Uranus, and if defeated would revert back to human form. However, in attacking them there was an inherent risk that the human host would also be harmed. (106)

The first major subset of Daimons deployed was supervised by Kaolinite. These Daimons were formed when a migratory, flying Daimon Egg located a suitable host object and secreted a sticky substance onto its surface, aiding the fusion process. After a short period of time, the host object underwent a transformation and took on the humanoid form of the Daimon. These Daimons all bore a black, star-shaped mark somewhere on their bodies. This mark could expel a powerful, concentrated energy beam capable of removing a Pure Heart Crystal from a victim. The Daimons were then instructed to return the crystal to Kaolinite and Professor Tomoe Souichi for analysis. (090)

Following Kaolinite's defeat at Tokyo Tower, Professor Tomoe placed Eudial of the Witches 5 in charge of Pure Heart Crystal collection. He also implemented her suggestions for refining the process of Daimon production. In the newly mechanised process, Daimon Eggs were delivered into a specially designed oven in the laboratory, where they could be fused with a selected object. The Daimons created from this fusion process were sealed into a Daimon Case and loaded into the back of Eudial's Station Wagon via a conveyor belt. As Eudial possessed the Capture Gun, a device designed to remove Pure Heart Crystals instantly, the new line of Daimons were designed for purely combative purposes. On Eudial's command, they would emerge from their case and keep the Sailor Senshi at bay while the Pure Heart Crystal was collected. (103)

After the talismans were found and the Holy Grail appeared, the priority changed to collecting Pure Heart Crystals for the Messiah of Silence to consume. The professor designed a new series of cormorant-based Daimons with the ability to suck a Pure Heart Crystal out of a victim and store it in their throats for later retrieval and use. These were created in the oven as before, and loaded into suitcases for collection by Mimete. (112)

After the awakening of Mistress 9, a large number of undifferentiated Daimons were released to shield the Omega Zone. Meanwhile, Germatoid revealed his true form, only to be killed by Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune. (124)

After the Death Busters were defeated, almost all of the Daimons and Daimon Eggs were destroyed. A single egg survived in the ruins of Mugen Academy, however, and hatched during a thunderstorm to release a weak undifferentiated Daimon. This Daimon managed to fuse with Professor Tomoe's Daimon oven, creating the last Daimon, Rangy. After an instinctive drive to collect Pure Heart Crystals, she was destroyed by Sailor Moon. (127)

Daimons created from migratory eggs were: Mikuji (090), Nekonneru (091), Steering (092), Octave (093), Osouji (094), Daiheart (095), Scar (096), Doburin (097), Taiyan (098), Toden (099), Haikyun (100) and Cenicienta (101).

Daimons created in the oven were: Soiya (103), Chagama (104), Irondar, Daruma (105), Hurdler (106), Chokokkar (107) and Chikuon (108) and Doorknobdar (109).

Cormorant-type Daimons created in the oven were: U-Estern (112), U-Henshuu (113), U-Tahime (114), U-Tomodachi (115), U-Baulla (116), U-Ndokai (117), U-Ikasaman (118), U-Chouten (119) and U-Pasokon. (120)

The last Daimon, created by chance in the ruins of Mugen Academy, was Rangy. (127)

Daimon Case

A large white box, labelled with the Death Busters' black star insignia, into which newly created Daimons were loaded. These boxes were then delivered by conveyor belt into the back of Eudial's Station Wagon. If Eudial required backup during her missions, she could call on the Daimon to break out of its case and attack. (103)

Daimon Egg

A white, seedlike object divided into six segments, and used by Professor Tomoe Souichi to create Daimons. The eggs themselves started off as a cellular mass suspended in liquid. This was added to another chemical solution, heat was applied, and the mass quickly swelled and expanded, creating a hovering Daimon Egg. These eggs, supervised by Kaolinite, possessed a rudimentary intelligence and were able to home in on inanimate objects, with which they fused. (090) If necessary, the eggs could pass through solid objects such as glass in order to locate a suitable vessel. (094) After a short period of time the object would transform into a Daimon, and proceed to attack a likely owner of a Pure Heart Crystal. (090) Following Kaolinite's defeat that the hands of the Sailor Senshi, Professor Tomoe turned to the Witches 5 for assistance. Based on suggestions from Eudial, he mechanised the Daimon production process, using the heat of an oven to fuse Daimon Eggs with suitable objects in the laboratory. The newly-created Daimon was then packaged in a Daimon Case and loaded by conveyor belt into the back of Eudial's Station Wagon. (103) Daimon Eggs that failed to merge with an object could break open to release red, semi-amorphous liquid creatures. These undifferentiated Daimons were significantly less powerful than true Daimons, but could still constitute an overwhelming force in sufficient numbers. (124) If a Daimon was killed, they transformed back into the original object. The egg would fall out of its host and crack open, releasing a shrieking evil spirit. (090)

Daimon Growth Medium

A pink fluid created by Kaolinite which granted her similar powers to Daimons. She used the medium on the second glass slipper from the pair used to create Cenicienta, and developed the same abilities as Cenicienta: wielding a powerful glass sword and able to spray solidifying powdered glass at her enemies. The strategy backfired however, as a World Shaking attack from Sailor Uranus led to her being coated in her own powdered glass, and ultimately caused her to fall to her apparent death. (102)

It has been speculated that Kaolinite's growth medium is the same pink substance used by Professor Tomoe in the production of Daimon Eggs; it is not known if or how these fluids differ.

Dam Dam

A cafe once visited by Tsukino Usagi and Chibi Usa, in which they heard two girls, Aya and Yui, discussing the Sailor Team. (MUSS)

Dark Beaut

The whip used as a weapon by Calaveras when she worked for Rubeus. The whip was effective against magical attacks, and could extend indefinitely until it reached a target. On some occasions, Calaveras opted to use two Dark Beauts together. (065) Calaveras stopped using this attack after she was purified by Sailor Moon. (072)

The Dark Beaut is never named on-screen. The name comes from the Sailor Moon R Nakayoshi Guide.

Dark Fire

An attack used by Koan when she was working for Rubeus. With it she was able to generate large quantities of bluish-purple flames. Koan first used this attack after discovering Chibi Usa at the Hikawa Shrine. (060) The attack proved to be more powerful than Sailor Mars' Fire Soul, but was outclassed by her newly-learned Burning Mandala. (063) Koan ceased to use this attack after she was purified by Sailor Moon. (070)

Dark Fruit

A black variety of fruit, used as a method of spreading Dark Power when Calaveras, Petz and Avogadora went to Juuban Supermarket to contaminate its Crystal Point. The trio set up a stall in the supermarket, offering free samples of the fruit to customers. However, soon after the fruit was eaten, it reduced victims to a zombie-like state, causing everything they touched to rot away due to the Dark Power released. Most of the supermarket's stock was contaminated before Sailor Moon and Sailor Mars intervened. However, once Avogadora had been killed, Calaveras and Petz withdrew and the effects of the Dark Fruit wore off. The victims quickly recovered, and the rotted food returned to normal. (066)

Dark Gate

A type of portal used by the Black Moon Clan to travel through time. Esmeraude wanted to use a Dark Gate to attack twentieth century Earth with the Evil Black Crystal, but the plan required the opening of numerous gates. In order to create these additional gates, Esmeraude planned to plant Dark Henges in naturally occurring Negative Points around Tokyo, which would gradually expand and join together in order to open more Dark Gates. However, her plans were repeatedly discovered by the Sailor Team, and her Dark Henges destroyed. (076) Although Esmeraude came close to creating a Dark Gate with the simultaneous use of two very powerful Dark Henges, the Dark Gate became less of a priority after the Sailor Team decided to travel to the future. (081)

The plan was resurrected after Wiseman created Black Lady. Prince Dimande travelled with her to the twentieth century and planted a fragment of Evil Black Crystal in the ground. Black Lady began pouring energy into it, hoping to open a Dark Gate through which the crystal's full power could be fired. (085) A very large gate eventually began to open, forcing the Sailor Team to infiltrate the huge crystal fragment and confront Black Lady at its peak, where the gate was opening. (087) Sailor Moon succeeded in using the Silver Crystal to transform Black Lady back into Chibi Usa, and the pair then used their respective Silver Crystals to destroy Wiseman and neutralise the Evil Black Crystal. Without the crystal to support it, the gate dissipated and the crystal fragment shrank to nothing. (088)

Dark Henge

A figurine used by Esmeraude to latch onto the various naturally occurring Negative Points in twentieth century Tokyo. When supplied with Dark Power, the object would grow, eventually becoming large enough to support a Dark Gate. The Dark Henges were manufactured by Saphir, and were made to resemble Esmeraude. Their stability was connected to the health of Esmeraude's Droids, and if they were killed, the nearby Dark Henges shattered. (076) After numerous defeats by the Sailor Team, Esmeraude tried using two unusually powerful Dark Henges at the same time, at both Juuban Park and Juuban Municipal Primary School. This tactic bought her close to success, as the Dark Henges grew extremely quickly, but the Droids guarding them were killed before the Dark Gate could be opened. Following this, Prince Dimande announced a change in tactics which signalled the end of Esmeraude's operations on Earth. (081)

Dark Kingdom

An evil army ruled by the non-corporeal entity Queen Metalia. The sorceress Queen Beryl was the organisation's human commander, and the generals Jadeite, Nephrite, Zoisite and Kunzite were her most senior soldiers. The Dark Kingdom came about in the distant past, when Metalia infected the minds of most of Earth's population. Chief amongst these new servants was Beryl, who stirred up unrest on Earth, making the population jealous of the extended lifespans of the Silver Millennium's inhabitants. The movement was opposed by Prince Endymion, who attempted to warn his lover Princess Serenity of the imminent danger to the Moon. The warning was in vain, as Metalia, Beryl and their armies launched a swift attack, decimating the Silver Millennium. Endymion and Serenity were killed, as were Sailor Mercury, Sailor Mars, Sailor Jupiter, Sailor Venus and countless others. Confident of victory, Beryl proclaimed that the Dark Kingdom was now established. However, the devastated Queen Serenity used the Silver Crystal to destroy the invading forces in one blow, at the cost of her own life. The Silver Millennium's inhabitants were sent forward in time to be reincarnated on Earth, and Luna and Artemis were put into cold sleep, to serve as guides to the Sailor Senshi should Metalia reawaken. (044)

The Dark Kingdom did return towards the end of the twentieth century, based in a huge network of caverns at D Point, close to the North Pole. (001, 044) Beryl, her generals and their Youma had all been revived, but Metalia remained dormant, requiring vast amounts of energy to return her to full power. The Silver Crystal was the obvious choice for an energy source, but with its whereabouts unknown, Beryl instructed her generals to take energy from humans instead. Jadeite and later Nephrite were in charge of collecting this energy, but their activities triggered the reactivation of Luna and Artemis, who located the reincarnated Sailor Senshi and awakened their dormant powers. (001, 014, 033)

Eventually, Metalia regained enough energy to allow her to communicate, and she instructed Beryl to find the Rainbow Crystals, fragments from the Silver Crystal used to imprison the Dark Kingdom's strongest monsters, the Seven Great Youma. (025) Zoisite was placed in charge of retrieving them, but found he was in competition with the Sailor Senshi and Tuxedo Kamen, who sought the crystals for their own purposes. Around this time, Queen Beryl also realised that Tuxedo Kamen was the reincarnation of Prince Endymion. (033) Zoisite and Kunzite faced off against Tuxedo Kamen at Star Light Tower, and Sailor Moon's intervention caused the reconstitution of the Silver Crystal. Tuxedo Kamen was critically wounded by Zoisite, and was abducted by Kunzite, although the Silver Crystal was lost to Sailor Moon. (034, 035)

Tuxedo Kamen was revived by Metalia as Prince Endymion, now a servant of the Dark Kingdom. He and Kunzite were sent to find Sailor Moon and steal the Silver Crystal, but their moral differences and the remaining shreds of Endymion's humanity caused conflict between them. (036, 039) Endymion was put out of action when Sailor Moon attempted to heal him, as his personality was briefly restored. He was taken back to the Dark Kingdom for further brainwashing. (041)

As Metalia's power grew, sunspot activity dramatically increased, causing an unprecedented wave of natural disasters on Earth. (042, 045) The Sailor Senshi discovered a portal between Juuban and the Dark Kingdom's base at Le Crepe, and investigated. Despite a last stand by Kunzite, they discovered the base's location at D Point. (044) During the subsequent attack by the Sailor Senshi, the base was defended by the DD Girls. Sailor Mercury, Sailor Mars, Sailor Jupiter and Sailor Venus were all killed, but the DD Girls themselves were wiped out in the process. (045)

Beryl teleported Sailor Moon inside the base, and commanded the newly brainwashed Endymion to kill her. This time, Sailor Moon could not heal him with the Silver Crystal, but his memory was unexpectedly restored by the Orgel he had given to Sailor Moon. Beryl attacked them both with a shard of crystal. Endymion managed to defend Sailor Moon against Beryl's attack, and also seriously injured Beryl, but was stabbed by one of the fragments and died.

Beryl retreated and pleaded with Metalia for more power. Metalia responded by exploding from her container and merging with Beryl, creating the enormous fusion entity Super Beryl. She burst forth onto the surface and attacked Sailor Moon, but only succeeded in triggering Sailor Moon's transformation into Princess Serenity. Serenity attacked with the Silver Crystal, while Metalia drew power from all over Earth to retaliate. With the help of the spirits of her dead colleagues, Serenity used the crystal's power to its full extent, obliterating Metalia and the Dark Kingdom. The crystal also killed her, but its power ensured that she and her friends would be revived, returned to their old lives with no memory of the battles they had fought. (046)

Dark Power

A form of energy used by the Black Moon Clan, with the ability to neutralise Crystal Power. (062, 068) Rubeus instructed the four Phantom Sisters to contaminate future Crystal Points with Dark Power. (061) The energy could be transferred into inanimate objects, creating a negative influence on the people who encountered them. It could also be used for offensive purposes as a form of attack by some members of the Black Moon Clan. (063)

Dark Thunder

The signature attack of Petz while she was working for Rubeus. She was able to summon bolts of black lightning from her hands and aim them at opponents. (065, 072) On her last mission, Petz received a staff from Rubeus that boosted the output of her attack, but also severely affected her personality. The staff was eventually destroyed by the Sailor Team, and Petz ceased to use Dark Thunder after being purified by Sailor Moon. (072)

Although Dark Thunder is first seen in Episode 65, the attack is not named until Episode 72.

Dark Water

The main attack used by Berthier while she was working for Rubeus. With it, she was able to create a powerful stream of dark-bluish water to fire at her enemies. (068) The attack was also a method of spreading Dark Power, as prolonged usage would eventually contaminate an area. Berthier was also able to use a more powerful variant, Dark Water Full Power. She ceased using the attack after she was purified by Sailor Moon. (071)

Dark Water is first seen in Episode 68, but is not named as such until three episodes later.

Dark Water Full Power

A powerful but extremely dangerous form of Berthier's signature attack, Dark Water. The attack created a blizzard of enormous magnitude, and could freeze a whole area in matter of minutes. Berthier began using this attack against the Sailor Team in a fit of suicidal despair after she was abandoned by her older sisters. Koan intervened and persuaded her to call off the attack, and Berthier ultimately agreed to be purified by Sailor Moon. (071)

Daruma

(Sasaki Yuko)

DarumaA custom Daimon created by Professor Tomoe Souichi for Eudial. Daruma was the product of the fusion of a Daimon Egg with a daruma in Tomoe's specially designed oven. She was then sealed into a Daimon Case and delivered by conveyor belt into the back of Eudial's Station Wagon.

Daruma had white skin, and red armour covered much of her body. Her mid-section was made up of four coloured discs that could be fired at enemies, leaving Daruma slightly shorter but otherwise unaffected. Her main weapon was a giant brush carried on her back. This could be used to fire needles of energy, or spun quickly to create a protective shield. It could also extend its bristles to restrain enemies, who Daruma was then able to shock. Finally, Daruma was able to inflate her head and upper body, causing her to resemble a daruma more closely.

Daruma was released by Eudial to fight Sailor Jupiter after Yakushiji Kakusui's Pure Heart Crystal was removed. Sailor Jupiter was knocked over by one of Daruma's flying discs, but was then joined by Sailor Moon and the rest of the Sailor Team. Sailor Jupiter fired a Sparkling Wide Pressure attack at the monster, but she deflected it with her brush causing an explosion that knocked the Sailor Team down.

Meanwhile, Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune intercepted Kakusui's Pure Heart Crystal and determined that it was not a talisman. Eudial retreated, leaving Daruma to deal with the Sailor Team. Sailor Uranus offered Sailor Jupiter her assistance, but Sailor Jupiter insisted that she was capable of fighting the Daimon alone.

Daruma then extended her brush to trap the Sailor Team, and began electrocuting them. Sailor Jupiter's friends told her to combine her power with theirs, and together they broke out of their restrainsts. Sailor Moon prepared to perform Moon Spiral Heart Attack, but Daruma knocked the Spiral Heart Moon Rod out of her hands. Sailor Jupiter confronted the Daimon again, and, taking Kakusui's advice to heart, relaxed before attacking. Her Sparkling Wide Pressure caught Daruma by surprise, and the monster was unable to block it with her brush. The attack hit and destroyed Daruma, transforming her back into a daruma and expelling the Daimon Egg. (105)

DD Girls

(Nakamura Naoko, Satou Asako)

Five powerful Youma who volunteered to fight the Sailor Team on Queen Beryl's behalf, after the Sailor Team arrived in D Point to begin a final assault on the Dark Kingdom. All five of the girls had wings and were capable of flight. Their arms could transform into long, electrically charged masses of tentacles, and their leader wore a tiara that gave them the ability to create physically realistic illusions.

The DD Girls first taunted the Sailor Senshi by creating an illusion of the captured Tuxedo Kamen. Although Sailor Moon was fooled by this, the other Sailor Senshi restrained her. Sailor Jupiter went to attack the DD Girls, but was distracted by another illusion and caught, wrapped up in the tentacles of all five girls. The girls subjected Sailor Jupiter to extreme electric shocks, but she managed to retaliate with a Supreme Thunder attack. The resulting explosion killed the purple and orange DD Girls, but also killed Sailor Jupiter.

Next, the three remaining DD Girls attacked Sailor Mercury, who had stayed behind to act as a decoy. They created another illusion- this time of a wall of fire- which nonetheless generated real heat. Sailor Mercury used Shabon Spray to protect herself from the flames as they engulfed her, managing to track the illusions back to their source. Mercury was caught by the green and crimson DD Girls and repeatedly shocked, but got close enough to the leader's tiara to smash it with her computer. Sailor Mercury was killed, but the DD Girls had now lost their illusory powers.

The three DD Girls then turned their attention to the three surviving Sailor Senshi. They attacked from underground, managing to pull Sailor Venus down into a pit and electrocuting her. However, Venus found herself face to face with the crimson DD Girl, and with her remaining strength aimed a Crescent Beam at her head. Both were killed in the ensuing explosion.

The last two DD Girls moved in to attack Sailor Moon and Sailor Mars. Sailor Mars tried to block them, but the Youma ducked underground and created a mountain of ice which trapped her. As the green DD Girl used the chance to attack Sailor Moon, Mars managed to create a Fire Soul despite being trapped, which incinerated the attacking Youma. Finally, the leader of the DD Girls turned on Sailor Mars, shocking her continuously. However, Mars grabbed one of the Youma's tentacles and performed another Fire Soul, killing herself but also finishing off the last of the DD Girls. (045)

Dead Scream

Dead ScreamThe signature attack of Sailor Pluto, performed using the Garnet Rod. She gathered pink energy in the Garnet Orb at the end of the rod, then span around until the energy had coalesced into a large ball. The Garnet Rod was then used to hurl the energy at her intended target. In contrast to the other Sailor Senshi, Sailor Pluto whispered the name of her attack when performing it. The Sailor Team first witnessed this attack when Sailor Pluto intervened in the battle with Mimete and U-Estern. (112, 113)

Death Busters

An organisation led by Pharaoh 90 and commanded by Professor Tomoe Souichi, which sought the power of the Holy Grail. With access to advanced technology and magic, the Death Busters employed a mixture of scientific and supernatural techniques to achieve their goals. (091) As well as Professor Tomoe and his assistant Kaolinite, the Death Busters were supported by a team of researchers known as the Witches 5. (091, 103)

The Death Busters were established after a mysterious accident at a genetic engineering laboratory injured Tomoe and killed his daughter, Tomoe Hotaru. The explosion occurred when a newly-created environment for genetic manipulations was used as a dimensional portal by Germatoid, an entity from the Tau Nebula. This being promised to bring Hotaru back to life if her father complied with its wishes. Tomoe agreed, and the entity possessed him, while a second being, Mistress 9, inhabited his resurrected daughter. Following this, the possessed Tomoe established Mugen Academy as a cover for his operations. (120, 123, 124)

The Professor initially  creating Daimons which, under the supervision of Kaolinite, attempted to obtain Pure Heart Crystals in the hopes of finding the three Talismans. (091) The organisation suffered a major setback when Kaolinite was killed in a battle against the Sailor Senshi on Tokyo Tower. Unperturbed, the Professor sought assistance from the Witches 5, contacting Eudial. (102, 103) Eudial gave Tomoe a series of suggestions on how tactics could be improved, and the Professor was quick to implement them, radically overhauling the Daimon creation process. Armed with custom-created Daimons and a Capture Gun for instantly extracting Pure Heart Crystals, Eudial took over where Kaolinite had left off. (103) Meanwhile, the professor used unknown means to restore Kaolinite to life. The resurrected Kaolinite took on the civilian identity of Kaori, and began work as Tomoe's secretary. (121) After Eudial failed to live up to expectations, Tomoe planned to transfer her duties to her colleague, Mimete. (110) Eudial managed to locate the talismans but was unable to stop Sailor Moon from gaining control of the Holy Grail. As she fled the scene, she realised too late that her Station Wagon had been sabotaged by Mimete. She fell to her death after failing to navigate a tight corner, while Mimete inherited her old position. (111)

With the Holy Grail now within their grasp, the professor turned his attention to the Messiah of Silence, the entity with the power to use the Grail on behalf of the Death Busters. Dwelling within the body of Hotaru, the Messiah of Silence demanded energy to unlock her powers. The professor agreed to collect more Pure Heart Crystals for her to consume. He introduced a new line of Daimons to obtain them, with Mimete now in charge of field operations. (112) The professor soon became frustrated with Mimete's lack of progress, however, and quietly approached Tellu in the hopes that she would yield better results. Mimete soon discovered that she was being rejected in favour of her colleague, and attempted to steal Tellu's mission. Her tactics backfired badly when she used Eudial's Witches Electric Warp to transfer herself to a bank of monitors with greatly increased powers, only for Tellu to unplug them, trapping her forever inside. (120) Tellu took her place as head of operations, but her tenure was short-lived, as her plan to use Telluns to harvest Pure Heart Crystals on a massive scale backfired, resulting in her death. Meanwhile, the professor instructed Kaolinite to return to active duty. Her first task was recapturing Hotaru, who had briefly reasserted control of her body and left the Messiah of Silence's chambers in search of Chibi Usa. (121) Another operation to collect large numbers of Pure Heart Crystals was carried out by Viluy, the fourth of the Witches 5, but this ended in failure, with Viluy dying in the process. However, during the battle, the professor was able to discover the civilian identities of several of the Sailor Senshi. (122)

While Cyprine's plan to steal Pure Heart Crystals from the students of Mugen Academy was a failure, Kaolinite successfully abducted Chibi Usa, and her exceptional Pure Heart Crystal was used to awaken the Messiah of Silence, Mistress 9. As she awoke, the Messiah of Silence killed Kaolinite, and the Mugen Academy building began to collapse. (123) Mistress 9 established an energy shield around the ruins, naming their fortress the Omega Zone. A large number of undifferentiated Daimons were released to reinforce the shield, and halt the progress of the Sailor Team outside. While Mistress 9 brought Sailor Moon inside the perimeter in order to steal the Holy Grail, Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune, managed to breach their defences, and the professor was sent to stop them. Abandoning his host body and revealing his true form, Germatoid fought the Sailor Senshi with the aid of an army of puppet bodies, but was ultimately killed by the talismans. Meanwhile, Mistress 9 tried to obtain the Holy Grail from Sailor Moon by posing as Hotaru, but failed to convince Sailor Moon of her identity. (124)

Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune attempted to kill Mistress 9, but Sailor Moon protected her, believing that Hotaru might still be alive within her. Professor Tomoe, now free from Germatoid's possession, arrived in the chamber to see his daughter, and Hotaru began to reawaken within Mistress 9. Convinced that the Holy Grail would be of aid to Hotaru, Sailor Moon presented it to her, only for it to be snatched away by Mistress 9 and transferred to Pharaoh 90. The entity, now infused with power, began firing blasts of energy through the dimensional portal. One of the blasts struck Mistress 9, who realised to her horror that she had been rejected by her master. Meanwhile, Hotaru made a fresh attempt to reassert herself, and eventually managed to destroy Mistress 9 by awakening as Sailor Saturn. She returned Chibi Usa's Pure Heart Crystal to her, then used her apocalyptic powers to destroy Pharaoh 90 from the inside, ending the Death Busters' assault on Earth. (125)

(086) The Death Phantom resided on the planet Nemesis for some time in the thirtieth century, where he assumed the identity of a cloaked sorcerer called Wiseman. He manipulated the actions of the Black Moon Clan in order to engineer the his own rise to power, using them to boost the power of his Evil Black Crystal and strike out against the greatest threats to his existence, Neo Queen Serenity and the Silver Crystal. Many of the Black Moon Clan's senior members were killed in the process, but the Death Phantom himself was ultimately killed by the combined force of the twentieth and thirtieth century Silver Crystals. Deep Aqua Mirror

One of the three talismans. It was held inside Sailor Neptune's Pure Heart until Eudial removed it with her Capture Gun. (110) Sailor Pluto used the Garnet Orb to separate the Deep Aqua Mirror from the Pure Heart Crystal, allowing Sailor Neptune to re-absorb her Pure Heart and keep the talisman. Along with its counterparts, the Garnet Orb and the Space Sword, the mirror triggered the formation of the Holy Grail. After Sailor Moon took control of the Grail, Sailor Neptune kept the Deep Aqua Mirror for use in combat. (111) On the advice of Sailor Pluto, Sailor Neptune used the Deep Aqua Mirror to loacte the Daimon Germatoid's true body amongst his puppet bodies in the ruins of Mugen Academy. (124)

Deep Submerge

Dia, Princess

(Itou Miki)

Princess DiaThe shy and reclusive first princess of the Diamond Kingdom, who suffered from poor eyesight and a serious inferiority complex. She came to Tokyo in order to reveal her country’s most secret treasure, which both Queen Beryl and Tuxedo Kamen suspected to be the Silver Crystal. Meanwhile, Luna suspected that Dia could be the Moon Princess. Nephrite infiltrated the reception and used the unwitting Osaka Naru to transfer his spirit into the princess’ body, in an attempt to steal the treasure. Sailor Mars was later able to exorcise the spirit from her. (022)

Diamond Kingdom

Their first princess, Dia, held a reception at the country’s Tokyo embassy to reveal their most secret treasure, a diamond statue of the kingdom’s original ruler. The treasure attracted unwanted attention from the Dark Kingdom, and the reception was attacked by Nephrite. (022)

Dimande, Prince

(Shiozawa Kaneto)

Prince DimandeThe leader of the Black Moon Clan and the older brother of Saphir, Dimande was  commander-in-chief of their attack on Crystal Tokyo. (070, 075)  Dimande grew up with his younger brother on Nemesis, a desolate world which paled in comparison to the beautiful Earth. Since childhood Dimande had insisted that he would win back the Earth for his people, and Saphir was highly dedicated to him. (086) Dimande possessed extremely strong telekinetic and hypnotic powers, thanks to a 'third eye' on his forehead, usually hidden behind his clan's insignia. (083) While he remained in the thirtieth century, he sent operatives into the past in order to obtain the Silver Crystal and weaken Tokyo's defences. The first such operative was Rubeus, but after repeated failures Esmeraude was appointed to replace him. Rubeus was killed shortly after his demotion was revealed, and Esmeraude assumed his old role. (074) Dimande's insistence on attacking the twentieth century and steadfast belief in Wiseman's advice often brought him into contact with the outspoken Saphir, who believed their efforts would be better spent in the assault on Crystal Tokyo. (075)

Dimande was aware of Esmeraude's romantic feelings towards him, but he did not return them, maintaining a sense of distance from her. (076)  He recalled her from a battle with the Sailor Team after realising that Chibi Usa's power could be harnessed rather than merely destroyed. (081) Meanwhile, his increasing infatuation with Sailor Moon infuriated Esmeraude, but he demanded that Sailor Moon must not be killed, but captured alive. (082) Dimande had become obsessed with Sailor Moon and her future form, Neo Queen Serenity, and went to extraordinary lengths to capture her. He broke into the Crystal Palace and used his telekinetic powers to kidnap Sailor Moon, taking her to the clan's forward base on the outskirts of the city. However, Tuxedo Kamen soon arrived to rescue Sailor Moon, while Dimande was distracted at a critical moment by a mysterious storm of Dark Power, which unbeknownst to him had been created by Esmeraude to keep him away from Sailor Moon. In the panic, Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Kamen escaped. (083)

Dimande later seemed unconcerned about Esmeraude's death, and continued to cooperate with Wiseman against his brother's advice. Wiseman presented him with Black Lady, the corrupted form of Chibi Usa, and together they travelled to the twentieth century in order to open up a huge Dark Gate. Dimande planted a small piece of Evil Black Crystal in the ground, and Black Lady began pouring energy into it, increasing its size greatly. The Sailor Team attempted to intervene but were fought back by Black Lady. (085)  Shortly afterwards, Dimande was stunned when Wiseman informed him that Saphir had turned against the clan. Dimande refused to believe it, and confronted Saphir, who had shut down the Evil Black Crystal Reactor. Saphir attempted to explain that Wiseman intended to kill them all in pursuit of his own goals, but Wiseman quickly killed him before he had the chance to finish, claiming that he was within his rights to kill a traitor. A stunned Dimande recovered his brother's body, now unsure of the path ahead. (086)

Later, Dimande challenged Wiseman, but the sorcerer insisted that Saphir had endangered the mission, and that they both wanted the same thing. Dimande relented, but promised Wiseman that Saphir's death would be thoroughly investigated once Earth had been conquered.
After the Sailor Team infiltrated the huge Evil Black Crystal fragment in Juuban, Dimande teleported inside the crystal to greet Sailor Moon. He revealed his third eye again, and attempted to hypnotise her into swearing allegiance to him. The hypnosis failed, and Sailor Moon demanded to know why Dimande was motivated to destroy. Dimande replied that the Black Moon Clan merely wished to live on Earth, but they could never live in peace with the people of Crystal Tokyo. Sailor Moon insisted that it was possible, and Dimande realised that his beliefs were based on information given to him by Wiseman. Suspecting that his clan had been deceived, he stood down.

However, Wiseman quickly appeared and demanded that Sailor Moon be killed. Dimande refused, saying that the operation was over. Wiseman turned against him, and a tense battle ensued. Wiseman gained the upper hand by attacking Sailor Moon, forcing Dimande to defend her.  Seriously injured by Wiseman's attack, Dimande managed to summon the power for a final blow that shattered Wiseman's body.

Dying, Dimande asked Sailor Moon to take care of his people. Sailor Moon agreed, and he died, once again declaring his love for her. (087)

Disguise Pen

Disguise PenA magical item given to Tsukino Usagi by Luna, allowing her to disguise herself in order to avoid suspicion whilst on missions. It was used by shouting “Moon Power,” followed by the name of the disguise, and was strictly for official business. (003) However, Usagi was often tempted to use the pen for more frivolous purposes. (012) The disguises Usagi used are: a newscaster (003), a musician (006), a doctor from a university hospital (008), a bus attendant (010), a photographer (012), a bride (016), a princess (022), a fortune teller of love (30), a sailor (042) and a kindergarten teacher (052).

In later years, the pen was largely dispensed with, although on one occasion Luna gave it to Sailor Venus, who used it to disguise herself as Sailor Moon. The real Sailor Moon's identity had been discovered by Kaolinite, so Sailor Venus adopted the disguise to convince Kaolinite that Usagi was not Sailor Moon. (102)

Doburin

(Maruta Mari)

DoburinA Daimon overseen by Kaolinite, created from the fusion of a migratory Daimon Egg with the water in a swimming pool. Doburin was bald, covered in fishlike scales and - at least initially - wore a great deal of swimming paraphernalia. Her black star insignia was located on her head. Her main power was that of manipulating water and solidifying it into a yellowish glue-like mass capable of restraining enemies. She could also blow jets of water out of her snorkel, and use one of her rubber inner-tubes as a further tool of restraint. She relied heavily upon her second inner-tube, however, as ironically she was unable to swim.

After Doburin formed, she attacked Mizuno Ami, who was in the pool at the time, and began removing her Pure Heart Crystal. Sailor Moon attempted to intervene, but the Daimon trapped her using an inner-tube and completed her task. After Kaolinite examined the crystal and decided that it was not a talisman, she retreated, ordering the Daimon to finish off Ami and Sailor Moon. Tuxedo Kamen came to help his comrades, however, and knocked Doburin into the water, where her inner-tube was burst by Luna and Artemis. She managed to struggle out of the pool, but by this time Sailor Moon had been released from her restraints by Tuxedo Kamen, and was able to perform Moon Spiral Heart Attack. Faced with this, the Daimon reverted back to the form of water and expelled the Daimon Egg. (097)

Dogba

(Naka Tomoko)

DogbaA Droid used by Esmeraude during her plot to grow a Dark Henge in the Great Animal Kingdom. Dogba had bright red skin and was armed with an electric whip. Her main power, however, was to hypnotically control animals. She disguised herself as a vet, and forced the park's animals to put on elaborate displays for the customers. She then instructed the animals to turn on the customers. The Droid was challenged by Artemis and Luna, but she retaliated with her whip, backed up by her army of hypnotised animals. Eventually Sailor Venus intervened, destroying Dogba's whip. Meanwhile, Sailor Mars, Sailor Jupiter and Sailor Mercury took on the animals, boxing them in with a wall of ice. However, the Droid continued to attack, trapping the Sailor Team with metal collars. Artemis managed to distract her while Sailor Moon struggled free of her collar, and killed the Droid with Moon Princess Halation. With Dogba gone, the Dark Henge collapsed and the animals were freed from her influence. (079)

Doorknobdar

(Minami Oni)

DoorknobdarA custom Daimon created by Professor Tomoe Souichi for Eudial. Doorknobdar was the product of the fusion of a Daimon Egg with a section of door containing a doorknob in Tomoe's specially designed oven. She was then sealed into a Daimon Case and delivered by conveyor belt into the back of Eudial's Station Wagon.

Designed specifically for the purpose of securing an area and preventing interference by the Sailor Senshi, Doorknobdar had white skin, red hair and three doorknobs protruding from her head. Her right arm resembled a huge Swiss army knife, while her left hand carried a large metal door used as a shield. She possessed the ability to entirely secure an area by rapidly ricocheting off the walls, sealing up any exits with solid metal barriers. However, this was more or less the full extent of her powers, and she was not designed for any kind of combat.

Eudial released Doorknobdar in an underground car park after finally catching up with Aino Minako, whose Pure Heart Crystal she had removed but not captured. Tsukino Usagi tried to stop her, so Eudial ordered Doorknobdar to seal the area, ensuring that the Sailor Senshi would not be able to gain access. Doorknobdar obliged, although she inadvertently sealed Tenoh Haruka and Kaioh Michiru into the car park as well. Usagi transformed into Sailor Moon, and a disgruntled Eudial ordered Doorknobdar to attack her. The Daimon declined, arguing that she had no combative abilities. After Eudial insisted, Doorknobdar rammed Sailor Moon with a Doorknobdar Reluctance Attack, which amounted to nothing more than squashing her under her metal door shield. When Haruka and Michiru transformed into Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune, Doorknobdar attempted to tackle them with Doorknobdar Desperation Attack, but she was hit by Deep Submerge and failed to complete the move. Eventually taking shelter with Eudial, Doorknobdar told Sailor Moon to attack Eudial first. Eudial pushed her out of the way, countering Sailor Moon's Moon Spiral Heart Attack with her Fire Buster. However, the deflected attack hit Doorknobdar anyway and destroyed her, transforming her back into a doorknob and expelling the Daimon Egg. At this point, the barriers Doorknobdar had created also disappeared. (109)

Doringelars

(Shioya Tsubasa, Yamazaki Wakana)

The DoringelarsA pair of Youma who were originally the Olympic ice skaters Misha and Janelyn. They were brainwashed by Kunzite in an attempt to find the true identity of Sailor Moon, and the plan involved luring girls to the Juuban Ice Arena for free skating lessons. Misha suspected that Kino Makoto was Sailor Moon, but Janelyn became jealous at the attention he showed her, and transformed into her Youma form. When she attacked, using her Triple Axel Kick, Misha transformed too, and the united pair proved to be a significant force. Their attacks included the Combination Jump Attack, Death Spiral, Double Spin Kick and Shift Spin Kick. Sailor Moon arrived to protect Makoto and fight them, but her inability to ice skate was a serious disadvantage. Prince Endymion arrived to help, disapproving of the Doringelars’ indiscriminate tactics. Makoto transformed into Sailor Jupiter, and the rest of the Sailor Senshi came to assist as well. Kunzite then materialised above them, and announced that he had sabotaged the building, and intended to kill everyone by freezing them. He activated a machine implanted in the air conditioning system which drastically reduced the temperature, before disappearing. Endymion managed to destroy the machine with his cane, then Sailor Moon was able to return the Doringelars to normal with Moon Healing Escalation. (039)

The term "Doringelars" is highly obscure: it does not appear in the Nakayoshi Guides and the spelling is uncertain. It is, however, the only term used to refer specifically to the Youma forms of Misha and Janelyn.

D Point

An area close to the North Pole, at which the Dark Kingdom's primary base was located. A portal existed between D Point and Juuban, which was discovered by Aino Minako and Artemis. (044) The area was the site of a terrible battle between the Sailor Team and the DD Girls, from which only Sailor Moon escaped alive. (045) Soon after, the final face off between Sailor Moon and Queen Metalia in the form of Super Beryl took place here. The whole region was flooded with energy when Sailor Moon used the Silver Crystal to destroy Metalia. The crystal's power apparently removed all traces of the Dark Kingdom from the area. (046)

Dreamland

Theme park which was infiltrated by the Dark Kingdom in an attempt to collect energy. The park quickly made headlines after over fifty people disappeared upon visiting it. The missing people were actually trapped in the park’s Candy House in a permanent hallucinogenic state. The park’s mascot, the Dream Princess, was found to be a Youma by the Sailor Senshi, and the trapped customers were released after the monster was destroyed. (011).

Months later, the park was attacked again whilst hosting the Redman Show: Monster Fighter Redman. This time, Zoisite transformed the actor portraying Redman into the Youma Akan, which terrorised the visitors before being stopped by Sailor Moon. (032)

Although Dreamland is not mentioned by name in Episode 32, it is clearly the same place, and the second Nakayoshi guide confirms these episodes occurred in the same park.

Droid

A class of monster used by the Black Moon Clan. (061, 068) Droids were generally quite intelligent and could usually be identified by a jewel containing an inverted crescent moon, usually embedded in the head or chest. Almost exclusively female, they often possessed the ability to disguise themselves as ordinary humans. When destroyed, Droids disintegrated into a pile of dust. The jewel would survive destruction, but would rapidly lose its lustre. (061)

Drop

DropThe main character in Katakuri Ukon's manga series Drop Drop. During one of the segments read by Mimete, she was accused of being responsible for the death of one of the other characters, Andre. (113)

The second Sailor Moon S Nakayoshi Guide offers a few more details about Drop, such as the fact that she was raised in an orphanage.

Drop Drop

A manga series by Katakuri Ukon. The main character was a girl called Drop. Mimete was a follower of the series, and Chibi Usa bought the first two volumes of the series a gift for Tomoe Hotaru. Katakuri signed the books in an autograph session in Juuban, where Mimete took the opportunity to attack him for his Pure Heart Crystal. (113)

Dumble

(Emori Hiroko)

DumbleA Droid used by Koan in her attempt to infiltrate Project Esthe and contaminate the Crystal Point beneath the Hikawa Shrine with Dark Power. Dumble disguised herself as a human, and was presented by Koan as a potential coach. She demonstrated her superior strength on one of the project's other members, while Koan's feminine charms persuaded Rei's Grandfather to agree to the deal. However, he soon began to object after the Dark Power infected the other customers and a mass brawl broke out. When he tried to intervene, Dumble revealed her Droid form and attacked him. He was protected by his granddaughter Hino Rei, who Dumble also began to attack. Eventually, Tsukino Usagi noticed the Droid and transformed into Sailor Moon, killing Dumble with the assistance of Tuxedo Kamen.

Dumble's attacks included the Dumble Elbow Drop and Dumble Double Lariat, plus the two-person Koan Dark Power Flip she performed with Koan. (063)
