Haikyun

(Urawa Megumi)

HaikyunA Daimon overseen by Kaolinite, created from the fusion of a migratory Daimon Egg with a volleyball in the Shiba Park Junior High School gymnasium. Haikyun had light blue skin and red hair, with a large red circle covering most of her face. Her black star insignia was split across both of her hands, and became active when they were brought together. Her main powers involved creating a ball of pink, explosive energy that could be used as a volleyball, but would explode if it hit the ground at a high speed. She sometimes used Service Ace Thunder Hurricane to fire off such energy balls. She could control the balls telekinetically if necessary, and could also restrain enemies by creating an energy net out of thin air.

After forming, Haikyun attacked Asai Tsutomu and his girlfriend with her explosive volleyballs, but was interrupted by Sailor Venus. Restraining her with an energy net, the Daimon removed Asai's Pure Heart Crystal. Once Kaolinite determined that the Pure Heart Crystal was not a talisman, she ordered Haikyun to kill Asai and Sailor Venus. However, the Daimon was faced with Sailor Moon and the rest of the Sailor Team, and responded by sealing Asai's Pure Heart Crystal into an energy sphere an serving it at Sailor Moon. The Sailor Team managed to retrieve the ball, but Haikyun used her telekinesis to wrestle it back from them. Sailor Venus accepted the Daimon's challenge for a one-on-one match, and countered her serve with her Flying Roll Receive. Sailor Mars caught the ball, and Sailor Moon took the opportunity to use Moon Spiral Heart Attack against Haikyun, transforming her back into a volleyball and expelling the Daimon Egg. (100)

The makeup supposedly improved appearances for a brief period, but after a few years it would trigger skin problems and premature ageing. After his glass narration booth was shattered by U-Chouten's attack, Harris was approached by Mimete and asked for an autograph. He responded by throwing his chair at her, so Mimete simply ordered her Daimon to remove the DJ's Pure Heart Crystal. Both Tomoe Hotaru and Mimete were admirers of his, and the latter's obsession compelled her to select him as a target for Pure Heart extraction. Mimete attempted to infiltrate one of Hayase's practice sessions at a local stadium on the same day that Hotaru, aided by Tsukino Usagi and Chibi Usa, attempted to deliver a fan letter to the athlete in person. When Mimete saw that Usagi and Hotaru had managed to get close to Hayase while she hadn't, she released her Daimon, U-Ndokai, in a fit of anger. The monster sucked out Hayase's Pure Heart Crystal, leaving him unconscious, but was eventually defeated by Super Sailor Moon. After he regained consciousness, Hayase thanked Hotaru for her support. He subsequently went on to break his own High Jump record. (117)

Tsukino Shingo and Tsukino Kenji were amongst those who were caught by her, as was Chiba Mamoru when he tried to intervene. Sailor Moon confronted her, but was unable to use Moon Tiara Action. The Moonlight Knight appeared and sliced off the tentacles on Hell Ant's head, then the rest of the Sailor Team joined the fight. Meanwhile, Mimete planned to enter in order to get close to Araki and steal his Pure Heart Crystal. On the day of the audition, Mimete adopted the name Hanyuu Mimi and befriended Minako after discovering they were both fans of Araki. Although they were disappointed to find that Araki would not be attending until the final the following day, both girls were amazed when they were selected for the finals. The next day, none of the contestants got the required number of votes for a victory. Mimete briefly believed that she had won, and was devastated when she realised she had not. Furious, she revealed her identity and released the Daimon U-Tahime. While Mimete attacked the audience with her Charm Buster spell, U-Tahime went after Araki, eventually succeeding in sucking out his Pure Heart Crystal. Hikawa Shrine

A Shinto shrine located at Sendaizaka on a Crystal Point. (010, 063)  The head priest was Rei's Grandfather, whilst Hino Rei lived and worked there as a miko. (010) Kumada Yuuichirou was also employed there as an apprentice to Rei's Grandfather. (030) The shrine was famous for the accuracy of Rei's predictions, and for its amulets, which were believed to bring good luck. The shrine also offered weddings, and a special 5:30pm ceremony in which the guests were blessed with good fortune. (010, 016)

Tsukino Usagi first visited the shrine during the spate of disappearances from the nearby bus stop. The cause of these disappearances was Jadeite, who had infiltrated the shrine and was using the love amulets to hypnotise customers. The customers then got on board a 6pm bus driven by the Youma Kigaan, and where taken into another dimension in which their energy was drained. Rei's psychic powers revealed Jadeite as the source of evil, but when she confronted him she too was sent into the alternate dimension, where she awoke as Sailor Mars and foiled the scheme. (010) From then on, the shrine served as a meeting place and base of operations for the Sailor Team. (011)

Kino Makoto and Aino Minako once worked temporarily at the shrine, selling amulets while Rei was working as the head of the TA Culture Festival executive committee. (054) They reprised this role along with Tsukino Usagi and Mizuno Ami while Rei's Grandfather set up his latest money-raising venture, Project Esthe, in reaction to a damaging article about the shrine in Nanako magazine. The project was hijacked by Koan and Dumble in an attempt to contaminate the Crystal Point beneath the shrine. After Sailor Moon and Sailor Mars defeated them, Rei's Grandfather established the bizarre Project Jazz Dance instead. (063) Koan returned to the shrine on her final mission for Rubeus, where she was betrayed by her superior and was eventually purified by Sailor Moon. (070)

One of the Hikawa Shrine's trees was colonised by a migratory Daimon Egg, and turned into the Daimon Mikuji. This Daimon went on to steal Rei's Pure Heart Crystal, but was eventually transformed back into a tree when it was killed by Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune. (090)

Hineck, Frances

A poem of his was read aloud by the brainwashed Countess Rose during a session of the Princess Seminar. (037)

Hino Rei

(Tomizawa Michie)

Hino ReiThe present incarnation of Sailor Mars.

Background: Rei lived with her grandfather at the Hikawa Shrine at Sendaizaka, where she worked as a shrine maiden. She kept two pet crows named Deimos and Phobos, and attended TA Academy. (010, 017) Born with strong psychic abilities, Rei used the shrine's fire to make predictions and locate sources of evil. She awoke as Sailor Mars after discovering that Jadeite was using the shrine as part of an energy-gathering scheme. (010)

Character: As a shrine maiden, Rei looked the part and was outwardly calm and graceful. However, she had a hot temper that would flare up if she was challenged. (010) Rei didn't suffer fools gladly, and had no qualms about speaking her mind if she felt the situation demanded it. (026) Despite her apparent eschewing of the trappings of modern life, Rei had an enormous manga collection. (011) Rei was incredibly popular at school, adored and idolised by the other girls despite her despairing attitude towards them. She was also a talented singer and songwriter.  (054) Rei dreamed of becoming a "singer-songwriter, model, voice actress and loving wife". (090)

Friendships: In the early days of the Sailor Team, Rei did not get on at all well with Tsukino Usagi, who she considered to be lazy and incompetent. (026) She also angered Usagi by declaring an interest in Tuxedo Kamen. (010) However, the animosity masked an increasingly strong bond of friendship between the two, and though the squabbling continued, Rei eventually became very close to Usagi. (043)

Romance: Rei fell for Chiba Mamoru almost as soon as she met him, and succeeded in convincing him to date her. (015) Within weeks they were effectively a couple, although Mamoru was caught up in his concerns about his past life and was inattentive as a result. Eventually Rei began to look to Kumada Yuuichirou as a preferable candidate for her affection, although Yuuichirou's shyness hampered this. (031) Yuuichirou was devastated after he saw Rei spending time with Tenoh Haruka: mistaking Haruka for a man, he believed Rei had fallen for her. Rei became infuriated by Yuuichirou's increasingly rash actions, but eventually accepted that he was trying to act in her best interests, and dissuaded him from leaving the shrine. (099)

Holy Grail

A sacred chalice that granted enormous power to those who used it. The grail was sought by the Death Busters, who believed that it could be created by bringing together three Talismans. (090) Chibi Usa had seen a picture of the Holy Grail in the Crystal Palace in the thirtieth century, and tried to make a replica in her class at Juuban Art School. (107)

The Holy Grail was eventually summoned when Sailor Uranus, Sailor Neptune and Sailor Pluto brought the three talismans together in the Marine Cathedral. Sailor Moon and Eudial both tried to grab it, and Sailor Moon succeeded. The Grail triggered her first transformation into Super Sailor Moon, and allowed her to defeat Eudial with ease. Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune initially suspected that her ability to use the Holy Grail meant that Sailor Moon was the Messiah, but they changed their minds when they saw that she was unable to hold her new transformation for more than a few minutes. While Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune set about searching for the true Messiah, Sailor Moon kept the Holy Grail for future use. (111) On subsequent occasions, Sailor Moon was able to transform into Super Sailor Moon by invoking the power of the Grail and chanting "Crisis Make Up". In this form, she was able to perform a more powerful attack, Rainbow Moon Heartache. (112)

The Death Busters still sought the Holy Grail, and after the Messiah of Silence, Mistress 9, awakened, she brought Sailor Moon inside the ruins of Mugen Academy with the intention of stealing it and transferring its energy to Pharaoh 90. (124) Although her initial attempt at deception failed, Tomoe Hotaru's personality apparently resurfaced within her, convincing Sailor Moon to use the grail to bring Hotaru back. However, upon touching the grail, Mistress 9 reasserted herself and seized it, transferring it into a sealed glass cylinder. The Holy Grail then disappeared, its energy absorbed by Pharaoh 90. Hope for the Future

A piece of music apparently composed by Professor Tomoe Souichi in his youth. Tomoe contributed a gramophone record copy of the piece to the production of the Daimon Chikuon. The Professor claimed that his raucous composition was a waltz, although Eudial disputed the validity of this statement. (108)

This piece of music was previously used during the transformation of the Star Light Tower in Episode 34. But the most important question is: Is it a waltz? The Encyclopaedia's music expert, Birdie, says this:

"From 00:31 to 00:41 it's in 3/4 time and could be a sort of awkward waltz. The rest is in really marcato four that's a bit fast for a march, but could be a very hectic one. My metronome puts the 4/4 part at about 85bpm which is 'andante' tempo."

Hurdler

(Emori Hiroko)

HurdlerA custom Daimon created by Professor Tomoe Souichi for Eudial. Hurdler was the product of the fusion of a Daimon Egg with a hurdle in Tomoe's specially designed oven. She was then sealed into a Daimon Case and delivered by conveyor belt into the back of Eudial's Station Wagon.

Hurdler had pink skin and purple hair, and wore a large training shoe over her upper torso. On her back she carried a chalk marking device that could fire solid lines of chalk, used to restrain enemies. Her primary weapon, however, was her enormous speed.

Hurdler was summoned after Eudial removed Elza Gray's Pure Heart Crystal and was confronted by the Sailor Team. Hurdler used her great speed to dodge their attacks, and then used her own Hard Line attack to wrap her adversaries in the rope-like chalk fired from the unit on her back. Sailor Neptune soon arrived, breaking the the line and freeing the Sailor Team. Sailor Uranus then pursued Hurdler, overtaking her and then restraining her, allowing Sailor Neptune to aim a Deep Submerge attack at her. The stricken Daimon was then hit by Sailor Moon's Moon Spiral Heart Attack, and reverted back to the form of a hurdle, expelling the Daimon Egg. (106)
