Jack it Up

An attack used by the Daimon Steering to suspend victims on four jacks. She used this attack on Kameda in order to extract his Pure Heart Crystal. (092)

(Onosaka Masaya)

A general of the Dark Kingdom. He and the other generals participated in Queen Beryl's devastating assault on the Silver Millennium, but were killed when Queen Serenity used the Silver Crystal to defeat them. (044) When the Dark Kingdom and its inhabitants were revived in the present day, Jadeite became the first general to take on Sailor Moon. His original mission was to gather human energy to contribute to the revival of Queen Metalia, as a substitute for the elusive Silver Crystal. However, his plots caught the attention of Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Kamen, and he and his Youma suddenly had a fight on their hands. (001)

Jadeite's attacks were usually indiscriminate: his aim was simply to gather large amounts of energy from large groups of people, often using a fictitious business to reach as many people as possible. One of his most successful operations was Gym Shapely, a gymnasium which collected large amounts of energy from women wishing to be thinner. (004) However, Jadeite continually underestimated Sailor Moon, as well as Sailor Mercury and Sailor Mars, who both appeared during his time in charge. (008, 010) He soon began to fall from favour with Queen Beryl, and his increasing desperation to please her led him to a fateful encounter with Thetis, one of Beryl's Youma. Thetis, who was in love with Jadeite, proposed a plan named Operation Romantic Cruise to gather the energy of loving couples. They co-operated on the plan, but Thetis was killed by Sailor Moon. (012) Queen Beryl was furious that Jadeite had allowed one of her Youma to die, and gave him an ultimatum: to kill the Sailor Senshi or suffer the consequences. He engineered a showdown with the Senshi at Haneda Airport, during which he discovered their true identities. However, Sailor Mars was able to turn his own power against him, and he fled back to the Dark Kingdom, hoping that his knowledge of the Senshi's identities would be enough to save him. Unfortunately, Queen Beryl was not prepared to listen, and he was sentenced to Eternal Sleep. His position was inherited by Nephrite. (013)

Jadeite's Youma were: Morga (001), Balm (002), Flowa (003), Iguara (005), Kyurene (006), Derella (007), Garoben (008), Ramua (009), Kigaan (010) and Murid. (011)

Jakoku

(Egawa Hisao)

A male Droid controlled by the Evil Black Crystal, Jakoku took the form of a floating, Grim Reaper-like figure armed with a scythe. He appeared in Chibi Usa's mind, locking her into a constant nightmare in which he pursued her through the ruins of Crystal Tokyo. Sailor Pluto intervened to help, transporting the Sailor Team inside Chibi Usa's dreams so that they could fight the Droid. However, the confused Chibi Usa no longer recognised the Sailor Team when they appeared before her, believing them instead to be enemies. Meanwhile, Jakoku proved invulnerable to all attacks. Eventually, Sailor Moon managed to win Chibi Usa's trust, and the child's new-found confidence in Sailor Moon influenced the dream, making it possible for her to defeat Jakoku. The Droid was killed by Sailor Moon's Moon Princess Halation attack, and Chibi Usa was finally able to wake up. (075)

The Sailor Moon R Nakayoshi Guide classifies Jakoku as a Droid, but this classification is troublesome: he doesn't appear to have any physical form and may just have been a symptom of the Evil Black Crystal's attack on Chibi Usa's mind. Notably he does not bear the jewel that usually denotes Droid status, although his body does contain a larger, diamond-shaped jewel.

Jamanen

(Kobayashi Yuuko)

An amorphous, apparently wine-based Droid owned by Calaveras. Jamanen had the ability to alter her shape, viscosity and size at will, and sometimes resided in a wine glass. She accompanied Calaveras on a mission to contaminate the Crystal Point beneath the Lucky Charms House with Dark Power. She was called out after Calaveras and Petz lost patience with Tsukino Usagi, Kino Makoto, Aino Minako and Chibi Usa, who were proving to be difficult customers. Jamanen was confronted by the Sailor Team, but her liquid body allowed her to trap them easily. However, Sailor Moon evaded capture and, after Calaveras and Petz left Jamanen to take care of the Sailor Team alone, Sailor Moon killed her using Moon Princess Halation. (065)

Tokyo-based record company with whom Amade Yusuke had a recording contract. It was targeted by the Youma Kyurene as part of a Dark Kingdom plot to harvest energy by embedding high-frequency soundwaves in music. (006)

(Yamazaki Wakana)

A famous figure skater and Olympic gold medallist, and the partner of Misha. Despite their successful record, Misha and Janelyn, eventually fell out, with Misha threatening to ditch Janelyn and find another partner. It was then that they were approached by Kunzite, who brainwashed them and gave them Youma abilities, instructing them to find the true identity of Sailor Moon. The skaters offered free lessons at the Juuban Ice Arena in order to ensnare the Sailor Senshi, but the operation was impeded by Janelyn's insecurity and jealousy. While Misha gave the lessons, Janelyn observed the customers by means of a computer surveillance system. Eventually she could no longer stand watching Misha skating with Kino Makoto, and announced that the lesson was cancelled. Makoto remained behind at Misha's request, and Janelyn attacked them both, transforming into her Youma form. Misha assured her that he was merely checking if Makoto was Sailor Moon, and joined his partner, transforming into a Youma with her. Now both transformed, they announced that they were the Doringelars, and went after Makoto.

They were intercepted by Sailor Moon and Prince Endymion, who had joined forces with Sailor Moon due to his disapproval of Kunzite's tactics. The rest of the Sailor Team joined in too, but everyone became trapped after Kunzite announced he had sabotaged the ice rink, intending to freeze both his enemies and allies. Fortunately, Endymion was able to destroy the machine generating the cold wind, and Sailor Moon retuned Janelyn and Misha to normal using Moon Healing Escalation. Once restored, Misha and Janelyn resolved their differences and vowed to remain together. (039)

A TV show which was part of Channel 9's new spring season. It was produced by TV Ashita and featured the celebrity Shiratori Mikan. (007)

Japanese Dance Club

A club at TA Academy who had an exhibit at the TA Culture Festival. Tsukino Usagi, Kino Makoto and Aino Minako visited during their time at the festival. (054)

The highest honour in Japanese photography, which was won by Shinokawa Kijin, a Junior High student. (017)

Jenga

A game in which players have to remove sections from a tower of wooden blocks without it collapsing. While trapped in U-Ikasaman's multi-dimensional domain, Sailor Mars challenged the Daimon to the game. However, U-Ikasaman sabotaged the game by attaching a length of string to one of the blocks, making the tower collapse on Rei's turn. (118)

(Nishimura Tomomichi)

The sixth of the Seven Great Youma, reincarnated as Rei's Grandfather. He was revived when Zoisite removed the Indigo Rainbow Crystal from his body. Zoisite ordered him to attack Tuxedo Kamen, but when Tuxedo Kamen fled in pursuit of Zoisite, Jiji attacked Kumada Yuuichirou and Hino Rei instead. Jiji resembled a shisa, with asymmetric eyes, extendable claws and the ability to fire energy blasts from his mouth. Eventually, his powers were sealed when Rei used Aku Ryo Tai San on him, and Sailor Moon used Moon Healing Escalation to restore his human form. (030)

(Shinohara Emi)

A Youma belonging to Nephrite. She was implanted into a doll made by Kayama Mika, and strongly influenced the girl's personality, forcing her to make more and more identical dolls. Jumo was released during Kayama Yoshiko's exhibition at Juuban Art Museum, enlisting the cursed dolls in a battle against the Sailor Senshi. Jumo was made up of a series of unconnected limbs, and was able to reconstruct herself after an attack. Sailor Mercury discovered that the source of her regenerative abilities was in her right foot, and with that knowledge the Sailor Senshi were able to destroy her. (018)

Jump Out!! Friends

A television drama featuring the actor Kazama Yuu. Mimete often watched the series, mentally placing herself in the role of Kazama's love interest, Hanako. When Kazama's character announced he was leaving Hanako, Mimete became angry and decided to steal the actor's Pure Heart Crystal. She then supplied Professor Tomoe Souichi with the script to episode 115 of the drama, which he used to manufacture the Daimon U-Tomodachi. (115)

Junko

An enthusiastic senior member of TA Academy's Fashion Designing Club, who found and selected Ginga Seijuurou and Ginga Natsumi as models for the club's TA Culture Festival fashion show, Aliens From Outer Space. Despite having delayed the selection to the last possible moment, she and the other club members were pleased with the results. (054)

Jupiter Star Power, Make Up

Juuban

A district of Tokyo that is home to Tsukino Usagi and her friends. (001)

An institution that hosted Kayama Yoshiko's doll exhibition. The exhibition was disrupted when the Youma Jumo, who has been influencing Kayama Mika's behaviour, emerged from one of the dolls and battled the Sailor Senshi in the museum grounds. (018)

Juuban Art School

An institute in Juuban that held art classes for students of various ages. Kaioh Michiru attended the school, and also acted as a supervisor for some of the younger students. Amongst those under her supervision were Chibi Usa and the art prodigy Tsuzuki Masanori. The school was attacked by Eudial, who drove her Station Wagon through the front window in order to steal Masanori's Pure Heart Crystal. (107)

The shop hosting Katakuri Ukon's autograph session in Episode 113 is also identified as the Juuban Bookstore, although it appears to be a different building.

Juuban Cemetery

The location for Sailor Moon's plan to convince the Dark Kingdom that she was defecting. Tsukino Usagi used Asahina Nana to pass a message to Kunzite, expressing her intention to split form the other Sailor Senshi and asking to meet at 11pm in the cemetery. In reality, the plan was a ruse to infiltrate the Dark Kingdom and rescue Tuxedo Kamen. Unfortunately, Kunzite and the Youma Oniwabandana saw through the plan and tried to strangle Sailor Moon in order to lure the other Sailor Senshi out of hiding. Although the plan ultimately failed, Sailor Moon was able to transform Oniwabandana back into Asahina Nana. (043)

The company responsible for extensive building projects in Juuban, close to Yumeno Yumemi's house. One of their sites was the scene of a battle between the Sailor Senshi and the resurrected Youma Vena. (028)

It is not clear if this is also the hugely negligent company that almost dropped a girder on Ami's head in the previous episode.

The accommodation in which Urawa Ryou and his family lived during their brief stay in Juuban. Urawa was attacked outside the building by Zoisite, who tried to steal his Rainbow Crystal. (027)

Juuban Festival

The annual summer festival in Juuban. A friend of Rei's Grandfather once persuaded Hino Rei to join the Juuban Festival Entertainment Committee, which eventually led her securing the services of Tohno Maya, a skilled taiko player. Tsukino Usagi, Mizuno Ami, Kino Makoto and Aino Minako also assisted at the festival, manning the Goldfish Scooping stall. The festival was disrupted by Eudial, who arrived with the intention of taking Maya's Pure Heart Crystal. However, the crystal was quickly intercepted and returned by Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune, and Eudial withdrew, leaving her Daimon, Soiya, to take care of Sailor Moon and Sailor Mars. They were saved by the sudden appearance of Sailor Chibi Moon, who had just arrived from the future. The Daimon was defeated by Sailor Moon, and Maya gave her taiko performance as scheduled. (103)

Juuban Festival Entertainment Committee

The organisation responsible for the events at the Juuban Festival. A friend of Rei's Grandfather press-ganged Hino Rei onto the committee. On their behalf, Rei persuaded taiko player Tohno Maya to perform at the festival. (103)

Juuban General Hospital

Shinozaki was brought here after his altercation with Falion, along with Kino Makoto, who donated blood to help him. (049)

A popular venue for functions such as weddings. For publicity, Juuban Hall once held “Your Handmade Wedding Dress Contest,” which was disrupted by the Youma Widow. (016)  It was later the venue for Chiba Mamoru's play, Snow White and the Six Dwarves, which was also attacked, this time by the Cardian Bipierrot. (056)

A skating rink located in Juuban. In order to celebrate its opening, the business offered free skating lessons with Olympic figure skating champions Misha and Janelyn. The offer was actually a plot by Kunzite of the Dark Kingdom to unmask Sailor Moon, who had brainwashed Misha and Janelyn and given them Youma powers. When Prince Endymion interfered in the plan, Kunzite resorted to a backup plan, having modified the air conditioning system to reduce the temperature inside the building to absolute zero. The sabotage was, fortunately, undone by Endymion, and the skaters were returned to normal by Sailor Moon. (039)

Juuban Land

An amusement park located in Juuban. Sailor Mercury and Urawa Ryou, being pursued by Prince Endymion, sought refuge in the park after it closed for the night. Ryou close the location because he wanted to visit an amusement park with her before he died. Endymion eventually found them, and illuminated the Sunpaleets Ferris wheel to draw the rest of the Sailor Senshi to the park. A battle ensued, during which Ryou was briefly sealed inside the Black Crystal by Endymion. Sailor Mercury then retrieved the crystal and destroyed it, releasing Ryou and the other captured inhabitants. Sailor Moon took the opportunity to use Moon Healing Escalation on Endymion, briefly restoring Chiba Mamoru’s personality, before he was reclaimed by the Dark Kingdom. The following day, Mizuno Ami and Ryou visited the park again, this time during opening hours. (041)

Juuban Medical University Hospital

A large hospital in Juuban. The building was located on a Negative Point, and was completely taken over by Esmeraude and the Droid Pharmakon in order to nurture a Dark Henge on the premises. They also contaminated medication with Dark Power, creating an influenza epidemic in the area. Sailor Venus and Chibi Usa discovered their plans, and with the help of Tuxedo Kamen and the rest of the Sailor Team, the Droid and the Dark Henge were destroyed. (078)

A respected learning establishment located in Tokyo. Its staff included Sakurada Haruna (001) and Akiyama Higure (016), and students included Tsukino Usagi, Osaka Naru, Umino Gurio (001), Mizuno Ami (008), Kino Makoto (025), Kimura Yuuji, Ota Kenji, Kamikawa Takayuki (002), Kuri (003), Yumiko (007), Saionji Rui (014), Matsumoto Tadao, Kajimoto Minori, Takeda Naomi, Ando Masahiro, Komatsubara Kazuo, Sumizawa Katsunori (027), Kazu (055), Sasaaki Noriko, Honma Osamu, Matsumoto Tadashi, Tanaka Masa, Ikuhara Kuni (080); and for a short while, Urawa Ryou (027), Ginga Natsumi and Ginga Seijuurou. Juuban Municipal Nursery School

The nursery attended by Manami. It was attacked by the Cardian Amaderasu, and energy was drained from the babies, staff and parents there. The victims were taken to Azabu General Hospital. (053)

A primary school located on a Negative Point. (081) The school was attended  by Tsukino Shingo, Kayama Mika, (018) Momohara Momoko, Sarashina Kyuusuke, (081) Kaoru and Yoshiro. (064) Shingo's parents also arranged for Chibi Usa to attend the school after she came to Juuban. (061)

The school became a target for Esmeraude after she discovered the Negative Point there. A powerful Dark Henge was placed there, along with a second at Juuban Park. It grew very quickly, supervised by the Droid Chiral, and infected most of the pupils and teachers with Dark Power. By the time Chibi Usa arrived at school the following morning, it had descended into anarchy. The Sailor Team came and battled Chiral and his twin Achiral, and although the Droids were very powerful, Chibi Usa's power knocked them clean out of the building. Sailor Moon finally destroyed them in the school grounds, also destroying the Dark Henges and removing their influence on the school's inhabitants. (081)

Juuban Natural Park

One of the many parks in the Juuban area. The park was used for the filming of The Akafuji Gunman, a Japanese western featuring Eda Yosaku. Tsukino Usagi and her friends decided to visit the set, unaware that Mimete was also visiting the park in order to steal Eda's Pure Heart Crystal. Although Mimete and her Daimon disrupted the filming of the movie, they were ultimately defeated by the Sailor Senshi. Meanwhile, Chibi Usa encountered Tomoe Hotaru for the first time in the park, and the two quickly became friends. (112)

Juuban Odyssey

An apartment complex that became home to Ail, An and the Makaiju. The Makaiju itself was housed in another dimension that could be accessed from Ail and An's apartment. (047)  The tree remained dormant inside the building, gradually dying, until Ail and An tried to feed it Tsukino Usagi's energy out of desperation. The Makaiju was provoked into a violent reaction, bursting free from its containment and expanding to engulf the entire building. (058) Sailor Moon eventually purified the Makaiju at its own request, reducing it to a tiny seedling. However, the previous expansion and activity of the tree had left the apartment complex in ruins. (059)

Juuban Park

A park in central Juuban and the location of a Negative Point. (068, 081) Near the park was a pedestrian bridge, upon which Wiseman correctly predicted the 'Rabbit' would appear. Rubeus sent the four Phantom Sisters to intercept her. The confrontation led to a battle with the Sailor Team which ultimately forced the sisters to withdraw. (068) A few days later, the park was the site of a confrontation with the Droid Akumuda. (069) Esmeraude discovered the Negative Point in the park, and grew a very powerful Dark Henge there in tandem with another one at Juuban Municipal Primary School. The Droid Achiral remained there to guard it, and confronted the Sailor Team when they noticed it. Achiral retreated to the primary school, where the Sailor Team battled him and his twin Chiral. After the Droids were defeated, both Dark Henges were destroyed. (081)

Juuban Public Hall

The location of the rehearsals for Snow White and the Six Dwarves. (056)

This venue seems unconnected to Juuban Hall, although confusingly they do both appear in the same episode. The Public Hall seems to be more akin to a community centre.

Juuban Second General Hospital

The hospital at which Mizuno Ami's mother was employed as a doctor. After Tomoe Hotaru experienced a bad seizure, Ami took her to the hospital to recover. Although she planned to have her mother examine Hotaru, the girl left shortly after waking up, saying that she was not allowed to be seen by doctors outside her family. (115)

Juuban Supermarket

A large food outlet located on a Crystal Point. Calaveras and Petz infiltrated the business along with the Droid Avogadora, in order to contaminate the Crystal Point with Dark Power. To this end, they set up a promotional stall giving away samples of Dark Fruit, which quickly contaminated the customers and soon the whole store. Tsukino Usagi and Luna became suspicious of the rotting food, while Calaveras ordered Avogadora to assume her Droid form and complete the contamination process. Usagi saw this and transformed into Sailor Moon, and was soon joined by Tuxedo Kamen, Sailor Mars and the rest of the Sailor Team. Tuxedo Kamen duelled with Avogadora, weakening the Droid so that Sailor Moon could destroy her. Outnumbered, Calaveras and Petz withdrew, and the effects of the Dark Power on the customers and food were reversed. (066)
