One of the three pens used as weapons by the Daimon U-Henshuu. (113)
Background: Michiru's first clues that she was a Sailor Senshi came in the form of apocalyptic visions of the Silence. Although initially intent on ignoring them in favour of a future career as a violinist, Michiru was eventually forced to confront them, and awoke as Sailor Neptune in order to fight the Death Busters. Although resigned to her duty, she hated her new life, afraid of the responsibility that had been placed in her hands. Michiru soon became interested in Tenoh Haruka. Although she eventually realised that Haruka was destined to be a Sailor Senshi too, her interest was initially a personal one. Michiru first spoke to Haruka thanks to her friend, Elza Gray, who introduced them. Although Haruka was initially standoffish, Michiru continued to pursue her, eventually forcing Haruka to admit that she too was seeing visions of the apocalypse. When Haruka was threatened by a Daimon, Michiru revealed that she was Sailor Neptune, and warned Haruka of the consequences of becoming a Sailor Senshi. However, Haruka accepted the task, and the two became partners. (106) As a tenth-grade high school student, Michiru first encountered Tsukino Usagi and her friends in the Crown Game Centre. Given her closeness to Tenoh Haruka, it was immediately assumed by everyone that she and Haruka were a couple. (092) Character: Michiru was calm, refined, and quite unflustered by Haruka's flirtatious behaviour towards other women. (092) She was multi-talented in the arts, being an expert at playing the violin and painting. One of her paintings, Space, was exhibited publicly, (093) and she supervised classes at Juuban Art School. (107) She was also a highly proficient swimmer. (097) Friendships: During her junior high school days, Michiru was a friend of Elza Gray, the track star who introduced her to Haruka. (106) Michiru quickly became acquainted with Usagi and her friends. (092) While she disapproved of the risks that Usagi was prepared to take in the name of idealism, she and Haruka eventually came to an understanding with her. (126) Romance: Michiru's relationship with Haruka was initially quite ambiguous in nature. Haruka described Michiru as "more important than a lover" - although for a while, she denied they were in a romantic relationship. (092) This seemed to change after an incident in which they were briefly reacquainted with Elza Gray, and from this point on their relationship became unambiguously romantic in nature. (106)

Blessed with superhuman powers, Kaolinite was able to teleport instantaneously from one location to another, and summon immense bolts of energy from her hands. (090, 095). She was able to control her hair as if it were an extra limb, using it to grip and restrain enemies. At times, she also used a crystalline knife as a weapon. (098) Kaolinite was initially responsible for overseeing the fusion of Daimon Eggs with objects they encountered, and supervising the resultant Daimon as it located its target. (090) After numerous failures, Kaolinite began to participate more actively in her Daimons' operations. (095) Eventually, Kaolinite identified Tsukino Usagi as an individual of enormous purity, and became convinced that she was the holder of a talisman. Professor Tomoe gave her his most potent Daimon Egg yet to aid her in trapping her target. After spying on Usagi and Chiba Mamoru, Kaolinite infiltrated Sasaki Arts and fused the Daimon Egg with a glass shoe, aware that Usagi wanted a pair of them for her birthday. Sure enough, Mamoru purchased the shoes, and Kaolinite watched as he gave them to Usagi, triggering the release of the Daimon Cenicienta. The Daimon removed Usagi's Pure Heart Crystal, and Kaolinite was surprised to see how bright it was. However, Tuxedo Kamen came to Usagi's rescue, incapacitating Cenicienta and allowing the crystal to return to her. Unfortunately, Usagi lost her Cosmic Moon Compact in the process, only for Kaolinite to find it and notice its resemblance to Sailor Moon's brooch. Suspecting that Usagi might be Sailor Moon, Kaolinite took the brooch and ordered Cenicienta to locate their target again. They caught up with Usagi and Tuxedo Kamen in an underground car park and attacked again. Cenicienta succeeded in sealing Tuxedo Kamen inside a lump of glass, and Kaolinite taunted Usagi with the Comic Heart Compact. (101) As the rest of the Sailor Team arrived, Kaolinite opted to withdraw, instructing Usagi and the Sailor Team to meet them at Tokyo Tower. She then teleported away with Cenicienta and the frozen Tuxedo Kamen. Usagi met them again at the summit of Tokyo Tower, where Kaolinite ordered her to let them remove her Pure Heart Crystal in return for Tuxedo Kamen's life. Usagi agreed, and Cenicienta extracted the crystal again. However, Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune intercepted it, and announced that despite its brightness, it was not a talisman. Sailor Uranus returned it to Usagi, but Kaolinite resolved to kill Usagi anyway, as she was Sailor Moon. They were suddenly interrupted by the arrival of Sailor Mercury, Sailor Mars, Sailor Jupiter and - apparently - Sailor Moon (actually a disguised Sailor Venus). Sailor Venus announced that Usagi was probably just a fan of hers, and a frustrated Kaolinite threw down the Cosmic Heart Compact, turning her attention to Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune. As she teleported away to battle them, Cenicienta was left to deal with the Sailor Team, but was soon beaten by the combined efforts of Sailor Venus and Sailor Moon. Meanwhile, Kaolinite battled Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune on the outside of the tower, Kaolinite seeming to have the upper hand. The Sailor Team decided to come to the assistance of Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune, prompting Kaolinite to use another tactic. She produced some Daimon Growth Medium, which she poured onto the other glass shoe from the pair, thus granting herself the same powers as Cenicienta. The glass shoe transformed into a sword, and Kaolinite began spraying powdered glass at the Sailor Senshi that solidified on contact. Sailor Moon convinced the injured Sailor Uranus to withdraw, but Kaolinite created an energy barrier around them, trapping everyone in the battle zone. With Kaolinite seemingly invulnerable to normal attacks, the Sailor Team opted to charge up a Sailor Planet Attack while Tuxedo Kamen provided a distraction. They released the attack, but Kaolinite managed to withstand it, and pointed out that they now used up most of their energy. Kaolinite attacked again with a stream of powdered glass, but Sailor Uranus unexpectedly countered it with World Shaking, causing Kaolinite's attack to change direction and home in on her own body. Kaolinite was suddenly coated in quickly solidifying glass, which broke the deck underneath her and caused her to fall from the tower, apparently to her death. (102) Although the Sailor Team were never able to confirm her death, Kaolinite did actually die, but was subsequently brought back to life by the professor. In this restored form, she continued to work for the professor as a secretary, under the name of Kaori. Her duties included caring for the professor's daughter, Tomoe Hotaru. Upon meeting Kaori for the first time, Tsukino Usagi was amazed at the resemblance between her and Kaolinite, but rationalised that they could not be the same person. (113, 121) Kaolinite despised Viluy, who was quick to mock her upon becoming the professor's new favourite. Although Kaolinite may have been planning to kill Viluy, this became unnecessary after she perished in a battle with the Sailor Senshi. (122) Viluy's successor, Cyprine, was less confrontational, but Kaolinite still resented the professor's preferential treatment of her. Determined to win back his approval, Kaolinite abducted Chibi Usa, whose exceptional Pure Heart Crystal was ultimately used to awaken Mistress 9. The professor thanked Kaolinite for her service, at which point she was stuck by a bolt of lightning from Mistress 9, and died. (123) Daimons supervised by Kaolinite were: Mikuji (090), Nekonneru (091), Steering (092), Octave (093), Osouji (094), Daiheart (095), Scar (096), Doburin (097), Taiyan (098), Toden (099), Haikyun (100) and Cenicienta (101).

While investigating a docklands warehouse, Sailor V was caught in an explosion. Katarina was thrown clear, but believed that her partner had been killed. Sailor V had, in fact, survived the blast, but witnessed Katarina being comforted by Allan and suddenly realised the depth of their feelings for each other. Not wishing to intrude on their relationship, Minako left the country and returned to Japan, her friends believing her to be dead. A few months later, Katarina discovered that Minako was still alive. She travelled to Tokyo to meet her, but she fell under the influence of Kunzite, who had discovered her link with Sailor V and wished to probe Sailor V's connection with the Sailor Senshi. Now brainwashed and under Dark Kingdom control, Katarina met with Minako at the Port View Hill Hotel and tried to obtain information about the Sailor Senshi. Minako, however, did not feel comfortable talking to Katarina and left quickly. Kunzite then appeared before Katarina and triggered her transformation into the Youma Papillon. Papillon attacked Minako, and a protracted battle ensued, during which Sailor Moon and Sailor Venus sought refuge on a deserted cruise liner. When the monster eventually caught up with them, Minako was forced to acknowledge the admiration she still harboured for her old friend, plus the feelings of their beloved Allan, and told Sailor Moon to return her to normal. Katarina was restored by Sailor Moon's Moon Healing Escalation. After she had been restored, Katarina apologised to Minako for failing to realise the girl's feelings for Allan. As he left, Minako resolved not to begrudge the couple their happiness. (042)

Kino Makoto
Background: Makoto transferred into Juuban Municipal Junior High School during the eighth grade, and was placed in Class 6. Many students were wary of her, as there was a rumour that she had been thrown out of her previous school for fighting. However, she was immediately befriended by Tsukino Usagi, whom she had saved from a group of thugs that morning. Later in the day, she tried to help Crane Game Joe, who was being chased by Zoisite. When Joe was transformed into the Youma Gesen, Makoto assisted Sailor Moon in the battle, triggering her awakening as Sailor Jupiter. (025) Character: Despite her imposing appearance and kung fu skills (030), Makoto was frustrated by her apparently unfeminine nature. She was also skilled at cookery and cleaning, although her academic abilities were unfortunately on a par with Usagi's. (025, 027, 029) She also discovered that she had a talent for dancing and figure skating, the latter apparently being a throwback to her former life in the Silver Millennium. (037, 039) At one point, Makoto began to worry that she was not strong enough, after being overpowered by the Daimon Irondar. She went to train in the mountains with Nichiren Buddhist monk Yakushiji Kakusui, and learned to control her power more effectively. (105) Friendships: Since childhood, Makoto had been close to Shinozaki, who she claimed had always been there to help her. She denied any romantic connection with him, however, saying that he may have been more important than that. (049) When Makoto became one of the Sailor Senshi, her fellow warriors were still prone to infighting and arguments. Most of the tension was between Usagi and Hino Rei, with the mild-mannered Mizuno Ami largely unable to prevent their constant squabbling. Makoto admired Sailor Moon even before joining the Sailor Senshi, so was more willing to give Usagi the benefit of the doubt. (025, 026) Initially, however, she seemed unaware of the deep (but admittedly rather well hidden) respect that existed between Usagi and Rei. (043) Romance: Before moving to Juuban Junior High, Makoto had a relationship with her sempai which ended badly. She never really got over his rejection of her, and was continually attracted to men who looked or acted similar to him in some way. This resulted in a string of intense but short-lived crushes, one of the more notable examples being Furuhata Motoki. Makoto was not put off by the fact that Motoki already had a girlfriend, although she eventually had to admit defeat. (029) She subsequently developed crushes on the Moonlight Knight and Ginga Seijuurou, pondering that they may have been the same person, but she eventually decided that Seijuurou did not understand love as well as the Moonlight Knight. (055) For a short while, Makoto appeared to have a crush on Tenoh Haruka, although she later claimed to see Haruka merely as a role model. (096) Future history: In the thirtieth century, Makoto was known to reside in Crystal Tokyo, where she maintained her role as Sailor Jupiter. (083) Although the manga makes it clear that Makoto's parents died in a plane crash, the anime never mentions this fact, nor does it even indicate that they are dead- although this is still likely, as Makoto lives alone. Even the Nakayoshi Guide doesn't make this absolutely clear, although it does pick up on her fear of aeroplanes.

Later, unbeknownst to Koan, Wiseman predicted that Chibi Usa would appear again at the Hikawa Shrine, an area in Koan's jurisdiction. However, when Rubeus planned to send Koan to find her, Wiseman warned that she may not return. Koan came to see Rubeus, and gave him a bottle of cologne as a present. Rubeus merely crushed the bottle, and told her to go to the Hikawa Shrine and wait for Chibi Usa to appear. Dejected, Koan accepted the mission, and disguised herself as a cosmetics saleswoman after arriving at the shrine. She used her disguise to get into the building, and tried to sell her products to Hino Rei and Tsukino Usagi. However, they soon got into an argument about love, with Usagi and Rei insisting it was better to love than to be loved. With no sign of Chibi Usa, Koan went to leave, but as she was doing so, Chibi Usa finally appeared. Koan pursued her, but was spotted by Kumada Yuuichirou, who tried to stop her. Rei came to help him, and Koan retaliated with Dark Fire. She mocked Yuuichirou and his efforts to protect Rei, saying it was ridiculous to go to such lengths for a girl who didn't love him in return. Yuuichirou lost consciousness, and Rei transformed into Sailor Mars. Koan quickly turned her attention back to the unconscious Chibi Usa, but Tuxedo Kamen appeared and took Chibi Usa to safety. Sailor Mars took the opportunity to attack Koan, at which point Rubeus contacted her and she was forced to admit that Chibi Usa had escaped, and that she was under attack. To her surprise, Rubeus refused to help her, pouring scorn on the idea that he ever loved her. He then gave Koan a space-time bomb, with which he expected her to blow herself up along with the enemy. But the devastated Koan hesitated before using it, allowing Sailor Venus and Sailor Jupiter to sneak up on her and destroy the bomb. Now surrounded by the rest of the Sailor Team, Koan began attacking wildly. Suddenly Sailor Mars intervened to protect Koan, and asked Sailor Moon to help her. Sailor Moon released the Silver Crystal and performed Moon Crystal Power, removing the Black Moon Clan's influence on Koan and turning her into an ordinary human. (070) Koan subsequently found employment in Tokyo, selling cosmetics. (070) She remained in close contact with the Sailor Team, and accompanied them to watch Mizuno Ami compete in the World Chess Tournament. While there, she noticed her older sister Berthier's presence. Berthier trapped the Sailor Team in a bubble and challenged Sailor Mercury to a rigged game of chess, but her plan ultimately failed and she was left to her fate by Petz and Calaveras. Berthier was ready to take out the Sailor Team along with herself using a suicidal Dark Water Full Power attack, but Koan braved the corridor of ice to reach her sister, pleading with her to let Sailor Moon purify her. Berthier eventually agreed and ended the attack, then joined Koan in her new life. (071) Shortly afterwards, Koan and Berthier were kidnapped from the Hikawa Shrine by Petz and Calaveras, and were used as bait to ensnare the Sailor Team. During the ensuing battle, they were attacked by Petz, as was Calaveras, and it became clear that the staff Rubeus had given Petz to increase her power was driving her insane. Sailor Venus separated Petz from the staff, at which point Rubeus appeared and announced that the stick was sabotaged, and that Petz and Calaveras would be sacrificed in order to kill the Sailor Team. The staff created a black hole that threatened to suck everyone in, but the Sailor Team jumped into the black hole and used Sailor Planet Power to destroy the staff. Koan then asked Sailor Moon to purify her sisters, which she did. Now reunited, the Phantom Sisters established a cosmetics business, Beauty Quartette, in Tokyo, (072) Koan was later reunited with her ex-superior Saphir, after he arrived in the twentieth century pursued by Wiseman. Saphir was already seriously injured from his last encounter with the sorcerer, and Petz took him to the sisters' house and dressed his injuries. Despite the danger, he insisted on going to speak to Prince Dimande about Wiseman. Koan called the Sailor Team for assistance, but Saphir was killed before he could talk to his brother. Kumada Yuuichirou
Ever the stooge, Yuuichirou was enlisted as the head trainer in Rei's Grandfather's business venture, Project Esthe. He succeeded in attracting a large number of girls to take part, although he was replaced by Koan after she hijacked the business in order to spread Dark Power. Soon after, however, he was working with his mentor again in the less violent Project Jazz Dance. (063) Despite Rei's apparent indifference to his feelings, Yuuichirou remained loyal to her, defiantly declaring that he would protect her no matter what her feelings towards him. Although this initially provoked ridicule from Koan, Yuuichirou's selflessness eventually led her to question her own 'relationship' with Rubeus. (070) Yuuichirou later became concerned about Rei after she began meditating constantly. Usagi suggested that Rei was restless because she was in love, and shortly afterwards Yuuichirou noticed that Rei was spending time with Tenoh Haruka. Believing Haruka to be a man, Yuuichirou was shocked to see that Haruka was also close to Kaioh Michiru, and decided she was two-timing. He challenged Haruka to a fight, and when a furious Rei stopped him, he decided that she had rejected him for Haruka. He decided to leave the Hikawa Shrine, but was ambushed at the station by Kaolinite and the Daimon Toden. Toden removed his Pure Heart Crystal, but the Sailor Team intervened and defeated her, returning the crystal to Yuuichirou. Rei later convinced him that he had imagined the whole event, and convinced him to return to the shrine. (099)

Kunitachi
Kunzite was a strong tactician, and worked secretly with his lover Zoisite to trap and kill Nephrite. (022) After Nephrite was killed by Zoisite's Youma, Kunzite assisted Zoisite in detecting the holders of the seven Rainbow Crystals, although he refrained from joining him in battle. (024, 025) This changed after Queen Beryl became impatient with Zoisite's failure to steal the remaining Rainbow Crystals from Tuxedo Kamen: Kunzite intervened, assisting his partner in a plan to lure Tuxedo Kamen and the Sailor Senshi into a trap. Kunzite succeeded in trapping Sailor Moon, Sailor Mercury, Sailor Mars and Sailor Jupiter in a force field, while a disguised Zoisite stabbed and unmasked Tuxedo Kamen. The plan stalled when Sailor Venus unexpectedly arrived and tackled Zoisite. Meanwhile, Queen Beryl recognised the unmasked Tuxedo Kamen as Prince Endymion, and ordered Kunzite and Zoisite to withdraw, much to their annoyance. (033) Some progress had been made, however, as the generals had identified Tuxedo Kamen as being Chiba Mamoru. They pursued him again, now under strict orders to capture but not kill him, and lured him to the Star Light Tower, inadvertently bringing Tsukino Usagi in with him. They tricked him into handing over his Rainbow Crystals, and as Zoisite fought Mamoru, Kunzite drained power from the city and transformed the tower. However, the crystals were only briefly in his possession: when a vengeful Zoisite stabbed Tuxedo Kamen, going against Queen Beryl's orders, Sailor Moon's grief drew the Rainbow Crystals to her, whereupon they merged to form the Silver Crystal and transformed her into Princess Serenity. (034) When Zoisite tried to attack again, the transformed Sailor Moon quickly deflected it, injuring him in the process. Kunzite decided to withdraw, taking Zoisite and the dying Tuxedo Kamen with him. Unfortunately, Beryl was furious at Zoisite's attempt to defy her and struck him down with a lethal energy bolt. Despite Kunzite's pleas to heal him, Beryl refused, and Zoisite died in his lover's arms. Filled with rage, Kunzite returned to the Star Light Tower to fight the Sailor Senshi again. In a furious battle, he was able to defeat all of them apart from Sailor Moon, who finally triumphed thanks to the Silver Crystal. Kunzite was forced to withdraw once again. (035) A new objective had emerged: to find the true identity of Sailor Moon and obtain the Silver Crystal. Kunzite hatched a series of plans to expose Sailor Moon, but a new complication soon arose. Tuxedo Kamen, now regenerated by Queen Metalia and calling himself Endymion, was also intent on taking the Silver Crystal for the Dark Kingdom. Queen Beryl endorsed his participation in battle, and he soon became a serious rival for Kunzite. (036) Whilst Kunzite wanted to kill Sailor Moon, Endymion wanted to obtain the Silver Crystal without unnecessary bloodshed, and the two men refused to cooperate with each other. (037) Kunzite was eventually vindicated in this matter when Beryl acknowledged his concerns that Endymion could be trusted, and he was instructed to spy on him. (040) Soon after this, Endymion's programming was undone by sailor Moon, and he was brought back to the Dark Kingdom for further brainwashing, leaving Kunzite free to pursue the Sailor Senshi by himself. (041) Kunzite was sent to investigate when the Sailor Senshi discovered the portal to D Point and attempted to invade the Dark Kingdom. He intercepted them and attempted to send them to a random point in time and space, but the Silver Crystal intervened, transporting the Senshi to the safety of the Moon. The Sailor Senshi returned a short while later and fought Kunzite again. Sailor Moon attempted to use Moon Healing Escalation against him, forcing him to erect a shield. He then threw an energy blade at her, which was reflected by the Moon Stick and impaled Kunzite in the chest. As he died, he called out for Zoisite. (044) Kunzite created the Youma Mitsuami (036), Shakoukai (037), Blizzar (038), the Doringelars (039), Papillon (042) and Oniwabandana. (043)
After Professor Tomoe Souichi identified him as a probable owner of a Pure Heart, Mimete agreed to locate him and steal his Pure Heart Crystal. Upon reaching the botanical gardens, she personally favoured Mamoru as a target, but eventually opted to carry out the professor's orders. She confronted the botanist in a greenhouse and released the Daimon U-Baulla, who proceeded to suck out his Pure Heart Crystal. Fortunately, Sailor Moon, Sailor Chibi Moon and Tuxedo Kamen noticed the commotion and battled the Daimon, eventually defeating her and returning Kurebayashi's Pure Heart Crystal. He quickly recovered from the ordeal, writing it off as a strange dream, and was soon reunited with his family. (116)
