Lake Monster

(Hara Aya)

The Lake MonsterAn entity created from jealousy, originally an ordinary woman. Legend stated that she was in love with a young man in her village, but the man fell in love with a sprite from heaven. The woman's anger transformed her into an uncontrollable monster who attacked the village, but the two lovers managed to seal the creature inside the nearby lake before ascending to heaven. The statue of the Legendary Lovers was erected to commemorate the story.

The monster remained dormant within the lake for centuries, until Queen Beryl and Kunzite detected its presence, noting that its energy was similar to that of a Youma. Prince Endymion was sent to unseal it. When he arrived at the lake, he overheard Tsukino Ikuko explaining the legend to Tsukino Usagi. With this knowledge, he unsealed the monster from the lake, realising too late that he was unable to control it.

Once released, the monster saw Usagi and mistook her for the heavenly sprite that stole the man she loved. The monster pursued Usagi and her family, attacking Tsukino Kenji when he tried to fend it off. The family was saved when Endymion intervened, distracting the creature. The Sailor Team arrived on the scene, and as the rest of her family fled, Usagi joined her companions and transformed. Unfortunately, none of the Sailor Senshi's attacks were effective against the monster. Sailor Mars realised that the monster was not a Youma but a restless spirit, and used Aku Ryo Tai San to immobilise it. Sailor Moon was then able to use Moon Healing Escalation to release the woman from her jealousy. As the monster disappeared, the woman's original form reappeared and was seen to ascend to the heavens. (040)

Lucky Charm Juice

A very large beaker of green liquid that was an attraction at the Lucky Charms House. For 100 yen, a customer could attempt to drink a whole container of the juice in one go, an act that would supposedly make their romantic dreams come true. Tsukino Usagi achieved this seemingly impossible feat while the store was being run by Petz and Calaveras. She later acquired a second beaker of the juice and attempted to repeat her feat in a nearby coffee shop, with less success. (065)

Lucky Charms House

A Tokyo business located on a Crystal Point, which sold jewellery and good luck charms. One of its attractions was the Lucky Charm Juice, a large beaker of green juice said to grant good luck in love if the drinker downed it in one go. Petz, Calaveras and the Droid Jamanen hijacked the business in order to contaminate its Crystal Point with Dark Power, and began selling charms that reversed the romantic wishes of the customers. The store was visited by Tsukino Usagi, Kino Makoto and Aino Minako, all of whom were pining for their lost loves. However, when the girls failed to buy anything and a noisy argument broke out between Usagi and Chibi Usa, Petz lost her patience and dropped the facade. Calaveras called upon Jamanen to attack the girls, but Makoto and Minako managed to stall the Droid and duck into another room to transform. Sailor Jupiter and Sailor Venus returned to battle while Usagi transformed, out of sight, into Sailor Moon. By the time she returned, Petz and Calaveras gad fled, but all of the Sailor Team, including Sailor Mercury and Sailor Mars, had been caught by Jamanen. Sailor Moon quickly destroyed the Droid, allowing the shop to return to normal. (065)

Luna

(Han Keiko)

LunaAn intelligent cat with powers of speech who acted as a guardian for Sailor Moon. Luna's powers originated from a crescent moon-shaped mark on her forehead: when Tsukino Usagi first met her, the mark had been covered with a plaster, dulling Luna's powers of thought and speech. Usagi removed the plaster, and later that day Luna informed her that she was Sailor Moon. She gave Usagi her first Transformation Brooch using her power to create magical items. (001) She used the same power to create the Disguise Pen (003), the Transformation Pens for Sailor Mercury, Sailor Mars and Sailor Jupiter, and the Moon Stick. (008, 010, 025)

Luna originated from the Moon Kingdom in the Silver Millennium, where she and Artemis were advisors to Queen Serenity and Princess Serenity. Following the collapse of the kingdom, the dying Queen Serenity instructed Luna and Artemis to find and assist the reincarnated Moon Princess and Sailor Senshi, should Queen Metalia ever be revived. The Moon Stick of that era sealed both cats into cold sleep until their presence was required again. (035, 044) Upon awakening, Luna's memories of her old life were vague and fragmentary: although driven to locate the Moon Princess and Sailor Senshi, she remembered little about the Dark Kingdom or the Silver Crystal. As time passed, more of her memories returned. (001, 023) However, it wasn't until the Silver Crystal reappeared and Sailor Moon transformed into Princess Serenity for the first time that her memories fully returned. (035)

When Artemis and Aino Minako discovered the portal to the Dark Kingdom in Le Crepe, Luna and Artemis went on ahead of the Sailor Senshi, whose path was then blocked by Kunzite. The two cats emerged outside the Dark Kingdom's base at D Point, but when they attempted to turn back they were attacked by Kunzite. They were only saved when the Sailor Senshi returned and Kunzite was killed. The attack left both cats wounded but alive. (044) They remained in Juuban while the Sailor Senshi went off to fight the final battle with the Dark Kingdom, and were the only ones to retain their memories after the Dark Kingdom was destroyed. (045, 046)

Luna and Artemis quietly watched over Usagi and the others as they resumed their ordinary lives, but after two months the Cardian Vampir appeared in Juuban. Luna was initially against reawakening the Sailor Senshi, and she and Artemis tried to tackle the creature by themselves. They were ultimately unsuccessful, and when the Cardian attacked Usagi, Luna had no choice but to reawaken her. Using the crescent moon on her forehead, Luna returned Usagi's repressed memories to her, and allowed her to become Sailor Moon again. (047) Ultimately, Luna was forced to restore the memories of the rest of the Sailor Team, as it became clear that Sailor Moon alone was not powerful enough to fight the new enemy. (048) Luna was sucked into an energy well created by the Cardian Reci along with Usagi, after Usagi's transformation dramatically failed in the midst of battle. They were drawn inside Usagi's soul, where the spirit of Queen Serenity appeared before them and used the Silver Crystal to restore Usagi's transformation brooch. Usagi transformed again, and the two of them were returned to the battle. (051)

Luna's continual teasing of Artemis had unexpected consequences after Artemis left in indignation. He was later spotted at the Great Animal Kingdom, and Luna believed that he had run away from home. She went there to reason with him, but discovered that Artemis had found Esmeraude's latest operation. After the Droid had been defeated with Artemis' help, Luna tried, and failed, to curb her mockery of him. (079)

Luna-P

Luna-PA floating, spherical object bearing a cat's face, owned by Chibi Usa and used to perform rudimentary magic. Although apparently nothing more than an advanced toy, Luna-P could be temporarily transformed into other objects using the command "Luna-P Henge", (060) while the command "Luna-P Magic" caused it to create objects out of thin air. (062) "Luna-P Shouka" transformed the ball into a cloud of fire retardant foam. (111) The toy could also be used as a communication device: pressing on the nose activated this function. Chibi Usa used Luna-P to talk to Sailor Pluto. (064, 075) Later, Luna-P could also serve as a link to the Sailor Team's communicator network. (118) Sailor Pluto was able to control Luna-P remotely, and once transformed the ball into holographic image of herself, allowing her to communicate with the Sailor Team. (075)

Luna-P was found abandoned after Chibi Usa was abducted by Wiseman, tipping the Sailor Team off that she had been captured. (084) Sailor Moon brought Luna-P back to the twentieth century, where the Sailor Team encountered Black Lady. Luna-P instinctively gravitated towards her, and it became clear that Black Lady was really Chibi Usa. With Black Lady's power, Luna-P was transformed and became her chief weapon in subsequent battles with the Sailor Team. (085) It was restored to its usual form after Black Lady transformed back into Chibi Usa, and returned to Crystal Tokyo with her. (088)

Luna-P later came back to the twentieth century along with Chibi Usa, after Chibi Usa learned how to transform into Sailor Chibi Moon and travelled to the past in order to train. (103)

Luna-P Henge

A command issued by Chibi Usa to temporarily transform Luna-P into useful objects. The command was used to create a bottle of sleeping potion, a facsimile of Rei's Grandfather (060), a hypnosis-inducing umbrella (061), a propeller, a barbecue set (067), a first-aid kit (067, 078), a parachute (073), a pop-gun (SMR) and a catapult. (082) While Luna-P was under the command of Black Lady, the command was variously used to produce a Dark Power magnifying glass, a giant fan, a combat umbrella and a badminton racquet and shuttlecock used to create Dark Power fields. (086)

Luna-P Magic

A command used by Chibi Usa to produce certain small items from Luna-P without transforming the ball itself. She once used this to create a cane which transformed into a bunch of flowers, as a present for Mizuno Ami. (062)

Luna-P Shouka

A command used by Chibi Usa that allowed her to use Luna-P as a fire extinguisher. Upon issuing the command, Luna-P was temporarily transformed into a cloud of foam. This attribute was used to save the Sailor Team in the Marine Cathedral, after they had been trapped by the flames from Eudial's Fire Buster II. (111)
