Naru's Mother

(Abe Michiko)

Naru's MotherOsaka Naru's mother was the proprietor of Osa-P jewellery store in Tokyo, and lived above the shop with her daughter. On the day that Tsukino Usagi first encountered Luna, she was attacked by Morga, a Youma sent by Jadeite to collect human energy for the Dark Kingdom. The monster left her tied up in the basement and assumed her form, filling the shop with energy-sapping jewellery. Morga was killed by the newly awakened Sailor Moon later that night, and Naru's mother was freed. (001)

Naru's mother was well respected, and once received an invitation to the unveiling of the Diamond Kingdom's secret treasure, although she sent her daughter instead. (022) She was later shocked when Naru broke into one of the store's cabinets and stole a rare jewel. It transpired that Naru had been manipulated by Nephrite, and the stone was soon returned. (023)

Both Naru and her mother were attacked by the Youma Oniwabandana when she raided the shop in order to attract the Sailor Senshi. Naru's mother was pinned to the wall with shuriken and promptly fainted, but was eventually rescued by Sailor Moon. (043)

Naru's mother later witnessed her daughter being attacked in her bedroom by the Cardian Vampir, and fainted again. Fortunately, Sailor Moon, Luna and Artemis managed to lure the creature out of the house. (047)

Neither the anime nor the manga reveal the full name of Naru's mother, although in the recent live action series her name was Osaka Mayumi.

Esmeraude used her Evil Black Crystal earring to determine the exact location of these points. (076)

Nekonneru

(Kataishi Chiharu)

NekonneruA Daimon overseen by Kaolinite, created from the fusion of a migratory Daimon Egg with a jigsaw puzzle depicting a cat. Nekonneru had purple skin, black hair, catlike ears and a tail with black and orange patches. Her black star insignia was located on her left thigh. As she originated from a jigsaw puzzle, any part of her body that was damaged collapsed into a pile of jigsaw pieces. However, these discarded parts were able to coalesce and reattach themselves to her body, making Nekonneru very difficult to destroy completely. Her tail could be used as a weapon, and she was able to split it into multiple tails in order to battle several people at once.

Nekonneru's target, Miharu, first encountered the Daimon when she formed in her bedroom. Miharu fled to an abandoned house, but Nekonneru caught up with her and attacked, removing her Pure Heart Crystal. Miharu's cats tried to protect her, but were batted away, and Sailor Mercury, Sailor Mars, Sailor Jupiter and Sailor Venus confronted the Daimon. Tsukino Usagi came too, but was unable to transform into Sailor Moon due to the damage previously sustained by the Crystal Star. The Sailor Team attacked Nekonneru but were easily deflected.

Nekonneru was suddenly struck and broken up by attacks from Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune, who intercepted the Pure Heart Crystal. After deciding that it was not a talisman, they returned it to Miharu and left. Nekonneru was not defeated, however, and soon reconstructed herself. She grabbed the Sailor Team with her tails, and also attacked Usagi. Tuxedo Kamen intervened, freeing Usagi, and was attacked by the Daimon. Usagi refused to run away, and suddenly triggered the formation of the Cosmic Heart Compact and the Spiral Heart Moon Rod, disintegrating Nekonneru with the light of her transformation. By the time Nekonneru reformed again, Usagi had transformed into Sailor Moon. Nekonneru was then destroyed permanently by Sailor Moon's Moon Spiral Heart Attack, and reverted back into a jigsaw puzzle, expelling the shattered Daimon Egg. (091)

Nemesis

The home planet of the Black Moon Clan. (082) Nemesis was a dark, irregularly shaped planet with an unpredictable orbit that, even in the thirtieth century, was extremely difficult to track. After an unknown evil force instigated an ill-fated assault against Neo-Queen Serenity, the adherents who weren't purified by her fled to Nemesis. Once there, they gained incredible supernatural powers, drawing on the negative energy produced by the planet. Thus the Black Moon Clan was born, and after generations, the inhabitants of the planet launched an attack against Crystal Tokyo. (083)

After the Black Moon Clan were betrayed by Wiseman, Prince Dimande entrusted the planet and its people's fate to Sailor Moon. (087) The growing power of the Evil Black Crystal threatened to destroy the planet, but its destruction was averted after Sailor Moon and Chibi Usa used the Silver Crystals of the present and future to neutralise the opposing crystal. (088)

Nephrite

(Mori Katsuji)

NephriteThe second general of the Dark Kingdom, who participated in Queen Beryl's attack on the Silver Millennium, but was killed when Queen Serenity used the Silver Crystal against them. (044) When the Dark Kingdom returned in the twentieth century, he was chosen by Queen Beryl as Jadeite's successor for the purposes of gathering human energy. (013) Nephrite was an extremely powerful sorcerer who utilised the power of the stars in all aspects of magic: in choosing victims, creating Youma, and, on the occasions when he was involved in direct combat, his Starlight Attack. (014, 019, 023) His tactic was to target specific individuals who had reached a point in their lives where their energy was at its highest. He worked from a desolate church in a forest outside Tokyo (apparently generated by his magical powers), where he consulted the stars for information on his victims. Once a victim was selected, his modus operandi was to implant a Youma into an object close to them (usually the object of their obsession). This drove the individuals to pursue their goals obsessively, often giving them heightened skills originating from the Youma. At the point where their energy peaked, it would be absorbed by the Youma upon emerging from the object. However, if the Youma was destroyed, the energy was returned to its owner. (014)

Whilst operating in public, Nephrite used the alias of Sanjoin Masato, supposedly the head of a new corporation. He also claimed to be a tennis coach to get close to Saionji Rui. (014) During this time, he was spotted by Osaka Naru, who developed a crush on him. The crush went further after Nephrite instigated a plan to unmask Sailor Moon by sending out fake love letters from Tuxedo Kamen to every girl in Juuban. Naru happened to encounter “Sanjoin” and asked him if he was Tuxedo Kamen, leading Nephrite to wonder if Naru was actually Sailor Moon. After attacking her and taking her energy, he established that she was not Sailor Moon, but was intrigued by the quantity of her energy. (019)

While this was going on, Nephrite had to contend with Queen Beryl's frustration at his repeated failures and the plotting of rival generals Zoisite and Kunzite. He further exacerbated the situation by declaring his intention to locate the Silver Crystal, ostensibly Zoisite's mission. (022) For this purpose, he created the Black Crystal, an item capable of pinpointing the Silver Crystal's location. The crystal led him to Naru once again, but she did not have the Silver Crystal. As Naru tried to protect him from the Sailor Senshi, Nephrite realised that the crystal may instead have been reacting to Naru's feelings for him. (023) Observing Nephrite's increasing interest in Naru, Zoisite came to the conclusion that he had fallen in love with her, and sent three Youma to kidnap Naru. The ransom he demanded was the Black Crystal. Nephrite found the idea that he was in love with Naru absurd, but he ended up rescuing her anyway, whilst also discovering that Sailor Moon was Tsukino Usagi. He was never able to make use of this knowledge, however: he and Naru were ambushed again by Zoisite's Youma, who mortally wounded him. Staring death in the face, he opted to protect Naru, and the Black Crystal fell into Zoisite's hands. Although the Sailor Senshi killed Zoisite's Youma, they were unable to save Nephrite, who died in Naru's arms. (024)

Nephrite's implanted Youma were: Tesuni (014), Petasos (015), Widow (016), Cameran (017), Jumo (018), Castor and Pollux (021). He also summoned the Youma Leo for use in battle. (019)

Nephrite's catchphrase, "The stars know everything", was later quoted by Professor Tomoe Souichi in Episode 119.

During the shoot, the models, including Naru and Haruna, became trapped inside Kijin's possessed camera.
